Hey guys, footage from one of Osamu Sato's lost games has surfaced

Yeah. The official word from authorities was that all copies of the tape were destroyed, but it's just been revealed that at least one copy still exists

Such a sad story. I dont think I could watch it if they every do put a video online.

>> No.3282547

Holy shit, where did this footage come from?

>> No.3282548

>>3282545
I would. I've always been super curious about it. But yes, it is a very sad story.

Someone who has the game, it seems (not the uploader though, he describes it as "Game by Osamu Sato. Game is lost, and only a few people have it. If you have the game, rip the ISO data and share it with Osamu Sato fans!")

Do we even know happened in his released games?

>> No.3282559

>>3282550
I'm curious how the uploader got a hold of this then. It sounds like he doesn't know whoever recorded this.

Still waiting for a translation on this... Honestly, I'd prefer that over Roly-Polys

Last I heard the translation was either unfortunately dead or in stasis.

>Yesterday, we got a call that confirms the tape's existence. While reporting the original story we had reached out to Mollie Nelson, the widow of the owner of Chubbuck's news station, but never heard back from her. She called us back Tuesday to explain that she has the video — her late husband Robert Nelson had kept a copy of the tape all these years, though Mollie says he never told her why.

>When he died, it stayed in her possession. But after the Sundance debut of the quasi-documentary Kate Plays Christine, in which a former news station employee suggests that Nelson might have the tape, people started contacting her asking to see it. The attempts made her uncomfortable, so she gave it to an unnamed "very large law firm" for safekeeping. She says she has no plans to ever make it available and only held on to the tape to honor her husband's wishes. It seems, then, that the wait to see a tape nobody really needs to see continues.

Watching that was sort of like how I imagine having a brain aneurysm feels

>> No.3282778

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop in to inform you that this isn't a new development.

Back in March, I found someone on Twitter who posted a pic of the game's box. I contacted them to see if they'd rip/sell it, and although they declined, they did post some clips on Vine. Someone then decided to compile them and upload them to YouTube. Around the same time, I contacted someone who owned the game's sequel, but they refused to share anything.

And that's how it all went down.

Yes, but as I mentioned, they also refused to sell or rip the game. They even deleted the original photo they had posted of the game after I asked about it.

That sucks. Where did they post it? Might still be on Wayback Machine

So these two different people both posted box art of either game, around the same time? Hell of a coincidence, hah. Really cool to see though. One more step towards them being found.

I doubt that was their mentality. They probably have a strong personal attachment to the game and don't want to get rid of it yet. Also, Japan has stricter copyright policies than other countries, so even if they wanted to rip the game, they'd have a hard time getting away with it.

True. I was originally sent a copy of Cruel Ghost Legend (an old Japanese movie) by a guy in Japan and he was adamant that his identity never be exposed. Must have pretty harsh penalties.

Sort of Osamu Sato related, but has anyone heard of "The Saboten Man"? I saw gameplay of it on youtube and it sort of reminds me of Eastern Mind. There doesn't seem to be any ISO's online except for its intro on youtube, and it seems to be quite rare.

>> No.3283380

Adventure Legends has the ISO.

Oh look, it's this meme game designer again. Not sure why /vr/ has such a huge obsession with him.

>> No.3283489

>>3283446
Well, considering most of his works are so rare that even he has no copies of some of his games, that kind of attracts lost media enthusiasts in /vr/. Its like a treasure hunt trying to search for lost media.

I get really happy when lost stuff like this surfaces.
anyone else super interested in lost history kind of stuff?

BUMP

theres not enough lost media discussion here, but this board is ripe for it

>> No.3285795

>>3283841
I am. I sent a PM to the guy who uploaded the video just to see if he had any more information on it. He probably doesn't, but you never know.

>>3284731
Its a hell of a lot more interesting than the 300th emulation circlejerk thread and bitching about game prices.

>> No.3285814

there isn't really that much to discuss based on this footage here
taking away osamu's usual stuff it looks like all that's left is the kind of edutainment shovelware you'd find in a mall for 5 dollars years ago - you click shit, something animates and plays sounds so that the publishers can stick the word "multimedia" on the label
this having said, i'm still intrigued and rooting for everyone involved in researching these games

lets talk about other lost old games then :)
