I was really happy as a kid when I found out that his name had always been "Eggman" in Japanese, and they were finally starting to bring it overseas.

Though unfortunately you get a lot of people whining that this name "was originally Dr. Robotnik", but just point at Sonic 2's Wing Fortress where it clearly reads "EGGMAN 02" on the side of the ship, and it usually shuts them up.

(Though I will admit I'm glad that they're keeping Robotnik around as a surname, since it worked better for Sa2's backstory.)

What's weird is that in AoStH, they still had a lot of egg references. His favorite food was eggs, Sonic would call him "egghead" or "eggface", and he named his vehicles things like "Egg-O-Matic".
