I was about 4 years old when I got this game from my local video rental store (that just closed for good last year). From my collection of about 25 NES games, this is the only fucker I was never able to play.

It doesn't work. Every game works except this piece of shit. I have a clean console, and I cleaned this asshole of a game thoroughly. Can someone explain why this still won't boot up?

What happens is, I press the power button, and the red power light starts to blink on and off. When it blinks on for a second, I see the title screen and hear the first second of the title music. I can never get the power to not blink on and off. Now my Super Mario Bros. 3 cart is really tricky with me. I have to wiggle that cart around quite a bit before I get it to display cleanly. But no amount of wiggling around gets x-men to power on. I spent a half hour last night trying for the 100th time.

I realize that a lot of people hate this game, but I just want to try it for myself and it bothers me that I've been carrying this broken cart for my entire life. How can I get this to work? Is the cart just not shaped correctly and it won't fit perfectly? Help me bros. I don't want to give up yet.

don't do this, only fucking morons do this in attempt to get games to boot.

don't understand why? search the archives and you'll find a bunch of posts of me explaining why you're retarded.

i'm sick of typing it up.

>everyone on the internet says disabling the 10NES doesn't break anything
>Nintendo removed the chip entirely from the top-loader
>THIS IS STUPID AND I WONT EXPLAIN WHY!
Sure there bud, whatever you want to believe.

ugh, okay, quickly /vr/ let's learn together.

ever have an NES blink instead of booting a game?
that's the 10NES, it's resetting the console in hopes to get the game to boot.

if you disable this chip and the game doesn't boot on the first try it just sits there until you get up and reset it.

get it?

the only valid reason to disable it is if you want to play imports, shitty bootlegs or homebrew that wouldn't boot on their own.

Well, thanks for sharing.

Not him, but you're saying that it will allow other games to boot (possibly OP's X-Men) and homebrew. But the HORRIBLE downside is that if the game doesn't boot properly the first time, you have to reset it manually? Did I read that correctly?

>implying that "auto-reset" function was ever good for anything.

even if it does eventually load after blinking, you still have to re-insert the cartridge to get it properly seated its probably already displaying glitches at that point.

Op here, I read up on the chip and disabled it. It fucking worked. So do all my other games. Thanks for giving me good advice unlike that one moron.

I had the exact same problem with a Goonies II cart I bought last year. I didn't know what was up. Then I just happened to look at the back label and notice it was written in German...
