ITT: Subtle symbolism in retro games.

We all know (and love) Tiffany from Rival Schools. She's bubbly, beautiful, full of life and unflinchingly optimistic, wholly befitting her character as both a cheerleader and an American.

But there's something more. If you notice, Brainwashed Tiffany's outfit has inverted colors closely resembling the Cuban flag. Coincidence? I don't think so. After Hyo subjects Tiffany to brainwashing, she wholly changes as a person, internally and externally.

Do you think Capcom might've been making a clever statement on American-Cuban relations by having Brainwashed Tiffany's colors resemble socialist Cuba?

Tiffany exhibits several stereotypes most foreigners expect from Americans. She's vapid, flighty, regularly bungles foreign languages (Japanese, in her case) and, more than likely, believes in liberal democracy and capitalism. Wearing those beliefs quite literally on her sleeve, Tiffany couldn't be more symbolic of the Ugly American.

Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the Cold War knows about American-Cuban relations and the subsequent beliefs each nation held about the other. Cubans view Americans as jingoistic, greedy, self-indulgent, vain, mean, racist, consumerist, wasteful, unempathetic and wholly imperialistic people. Until the last decade due to the waning influence of Cold War politics, Americans viewed Cubans as dangerous, dictatorial, collectivist people lacking an iota of free will. Speaking in terse, automaton-like dialogue and clearly under the influence of a foreign power, Brainwashed Tiffany embodies the American stereotype of Cubans, communism and socialism.

One minor detail doesn't invalidate the theory. Brainwashed or otherwise, Tiffany's chest is still covered by a giant white star, a symbol common to both America and Cuba. Also, PRC and Vietnam's respective flags fly gold stars.

OP's probably trolling, but that's a curious observation he made regarding Tiff's color scheme. While the colors are flown on Cuba's flag, alternate Tiffany isn't anymore representative of Cuba than normal Tiffany is of Puerto Rico, so it's a stretch to say she's a Commie.
