So, I just started Der Langrisser. And though the ennemy/allies turns take ages to resolve and the AI is dumb as a brick, I'm having quite a bit of fun still.

So, Langrisser thread I suppose. Where we talk about tactics, overpowered upgrade paths, and the rest of the series, possibly. Haven't delved too much into it I'll admit.

I started playing the first one a while back but then hit a battle where I got slaughtered no matter what I tried and shelved it. Shame, it looks like a great series.

From what I saw, Langrisser IV has also been translated. Anyone played it? Does it still have a good enough story, branching paths, and hero units + troops?

"Der" is a horribly butchered port. You should play the original Langrisser II instead.

>horribly butchered

>more story choices and paths to take

The only thing that is better in Langrisser II is the music.

I agree with the other points, but come on, now.

I did. Well, I didn't seen the saturn version but they say its better than the PS1 version.

Unlike der, they use a new system here although its still turned based. There are 3 routes: light, dark and independent.(You'll love independent route here, you'll know once you play it)

In terms of plot, its interesting since Landius, the protagonist is not a descendant of light. It starts similar to der, skirmish in the village except this time, the targeted girl was captured.

About units, it becomes different a bit because of the judgement system where mages can move twice most of the time since higher judgment = faster action time. Mounted unit now becomes the slowest unit in game.

L4 has a dating sim feature, and RP will influence your routes that you can pick.

I agree on the sound effects. The graphics are not as good, everyone looks like ants and there are much less different unit graphics and animations. All storylines beside the canon one feel slapped on (as, you know, they are) an unplausible.

And the graphics. And the smoother gameplay.
Der Langrisser is only a viable choice if you want to play any path other than the canon one.
Still, I have to admit that the "canon" path is a little boring. My favorite is the one where you fight the Ledin from Langrisser I.

Actually, I don't really know about this. If it has a heavy "girls" focus, there might be a chance of localization considering things like Dungeon Travelers 2 has recently been announced for that.

I have warsong on my laptop and have zero idea how it got there. I loaded it up as it was the only Genesis rom I had besides that star control predecessor game I can't remember the name of, and was HOOKED. I played that motherfucker for 4 straight days until I beat it. ONE OF THE BEST GAME SOUNDTRACKS OF ALL FUCKING TIME. The original is very easy to begin with, but Der screws up the balancing even more. I wouldn't say the MD AI was notably dumb, not more so than any other SRPG of the time, though it tends to be overly passive.

I tried the first one too. The Dramatic Edition version. The early game was extremely easy, then I got raped multiple times by Lance until finally gitting gud and barely beating him. Then I got to the castle assault level, were able to kill all the enemies after an hour or so and got stuck on this faggot.

What the fuck am I supposed to do /vr/? All the enemies save for this faggot are dead. He just camps at that 40% DEF bonus spot, spends all his turns recovering HP and counter-attacks like a fucking truck. I'm only able to inflict 1 DMG per turn on him even if I attack with all my heroes. He is literally impossible to kill.

I was feeling there's something wrong. Battles before Lance was painfully easy, but from Lance onwards every enemy unit gets humongous stat boosts. My spearmen kept taking losses against fucking cavarly. What were the devs thinking?

Are any of the non-original versions playable? I mainly started the series because I heard there's branching story paths, but supposedly the original versions don't have those.

You can play them in any order, everything you need to know is explained well enough every game and they aren't in chronological order anyway (3 takes place before all others).

Though if you are in for the branching storylines only the remakes of the second game really have different paths, and all but the canonical one were added as an afterthought and not particularily well done.
