Favorite game from 1990-1999 discussion

bringing it up with Doom II: Hell on earth

Why not Plutonia nigga?

So much better. Plutonia is the GOAT of the original wads.

Growing up Doom II was my favourite out of them, too, but now it's fucking Plutonia.

Plutonia is fucking sex.

plutonia is amazing, but the levels in doom II and that being the first one i really played. idk i just fucking love it. all of the games in the doom series is sex

I like the original Doom.

I spent so many hours in the 1990s as a kid playing the Shareware version of Doom with only the first episode.

I played the hell out of it. I remember figuring out that you have to die in the end, and at school of course some kid claimed that his brother managed to live through that part. Some kid ALWAYS had a bullshit claim on video games about something his brother could do lol...

This and Crazy Taxi are tied. Doom II, Starfox 64, Pokemon _Red__, and Tony Hawk are all close winners as well. 1990 to 1999 is a huge span of time with multiple consoles getting shitloads of releases. Narrowing it down to one is pretty damn hard, so I'll just go with games that I could pick up and play at any time and still have fun.

Idk, one of these '90s games. Duke 3D needs to be in here, too. Also don't know whether to choose Doom II or Final Doom. Stand-alone, I think Plutonia kills Doom II but when you include fan-made expansions etc then Doom II wins because of stuff like Scythe. In fact the megawads that fans have made for Doom II are probably the greatest single player FPS experiences I've ever had... and I only started playing them this year. They're incredible.

I def preferred the first, it was just better to look at but I did like all the extra cars per race in the second. I remember once after weeks of playing just speeding hard and missing hitting my open and colliding with a side of the wall and it split my car in half. I was in total shock, it blew my mind.
First just felt grittier, also it ran better on my shitty hardware at the time

>> No.2342979

I really liked the pedestrian physics the second one had, so goddamn satisfying. I liked how pedestrians all broke at the main joints, too, like elbows, knees, top of legs, top of arms, etc. That splatter bonus was so goddamn satisfying.

Hah.. reading that back sure makes me sound like a pretty depraved bastard hahahaha.

>> No.2342982

>>2342979
*Oh yeah, and you're right about how the cars could totally split apart etc too. That was so awesome.

I never realised at the time just how good Carmageddon's car physics were. In retrospect that was some really incredible stuff. Flinging your car etc through the air and tumbling through it never got old; especially with all those bonuses etc

played through all of doom 1 again from pistol starts recently and I don't see why so many people praise the maps so much. I felt like most of episode 2/3 was finding a berserk pack and punching 50-70% of the monsters to death, which is fun I guess. Overall, having played final doom first back in 96 of so, not having ssg and moreso the doom 2 monsters just makes everything feel very wrong.

>> No.2344771

undoubtedly brutal doom and gz doom have greatly improved the playability and make an old game more fun and relevant to me than any modern fps, regardless of wad

Ocarina of Time
I know its completely overdone these days be LE NINETIES KIDS but every area in that game resonates so strongly with me. If I could erase my memory of any game and play it again, most likely has to be OoT.

is it weird I detest MM?

Its not really that Doom 1 had stellar map design (though E3M1 is GOAT), its just that Doom 2 had so much raw dogshit level design and most everything fanmade was ass as well. Plutonia/TNT/Final Doom were good but a significant difficulty spike so a lot of people just couldn't handle them.

What? Theres plenty of great fanmade stuff. Scythe 2, Alien Vendetta, and BTSX are better than all the iwads

>Plutonia/TNT/Final Doom were good but a significant difficulty spike so a lot of people just couldn't handle them.
Theres no reason for TNT to give people who finished Doom 2 a hard time. Its really not that much harder. It just requires a little experience. And Plutonia was specifically designed for expert players of the time.

Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium. My favorite game of all time.

>all dem saves from back in the day
>still have them all

Goemons Great Adventure and Dungeon Keeper are more or less tied at the top, although X-COM also deserves a mention.

To me Pokemon was the right game at the right time. For me it wasn't only the games but also the whole hype around everything Pokemon related.

It's the game I have the most nostalgia for. A lot of this also has to do with the Pokemon Stadium games. How the games had this connectivity to them that I really liked.

It's strange because I don't know if I should consider Red my favorite game of all time or not. Realistically I think I should considering I never at any other point liked a game as much as I did the Pokemon games. To this day I can still go back and enjoy it also.
