Just got Shining Force CD for my Sega CD.

Any tips going into this? I've only played 3 for Saturn and I didn't really know what I was doing with the leveling.

Shining thread?
Favorite game?
Waifu?

how does saving work? I know there are 4 books, but do each one take up a separate save file even if I choose to carry over stats?

>> No.2223734

You are doing everything backward, anon.
You should start with either 1 or 2.
And by no means play CD before 1.

>> No.2223761

My tip is that you play SF1 before SFCD so you can get all the references.

Not really...uh, in the first battle, have everyone drop their rings before you kill the last monster so you can re-buy them later in the deals shop or you'll lose them permanently.

>Favorite game?
Shining Force III Scenario 3

>Waifu?
Anri and Cameela

Why exactly did we not get scenarios 2-3? Like it wasn't even an issue of the Saturn flat-lining in the US. They simply marketed it as the entirety of Shining Force 3.

You need a save from each. Problem is that eats up more memory than the CD has.

I really like the Shining Force games, had Shining in the darkness as a kid and didn't like it much and now I'm sure my save battery is dead I'll probably never go back to it. Not had much experience with the post megadrive games.

I've started SF1 about a half dozen times but work or something always gets in the way. I lost my 10 hour save on psp a while back and haven't had the time to get back to it but I really should. Maybe I'll look up a FAQ for stat growth or something one day.

Shining in the Holy Ark has always been my favorite, but I'm sure 80% of that is plain nostalgia, since it was the first Saturn game I got (excluding demos) and I played the shit out of it.
Shining Force 2 is also lots of fun, if a little easy.

Also, Masqurin (from SF3) is my waifu.

I've got Shining the Holy Ark on Saturn and jeeze those dungeons are brutal.

I still need to go back to it because I do like the game itself. I would like a portable version of it though

When exactly is the best level to promote in thee games? I see a lot of players say 10 and others say 20.

>> No.2225318

>>2225252
The more levels you have prior promotion, the stronger your characters will be. You can promote them at level 10 in SF and level 20 in SFII.

In SF II, if you level up too much your characters will become way stronger than characters that already comes promoted, and you may feel like you broke the game. So I recomend level 25, because that's the level that the first promoted character you recruit (Rohde) is implied to be.

In Shining Force however you get unpromoted characters during the entire game, and the game rewards you for not promoting them as soon as possible since it's easier to level up unpromoted charaters. Even the few characters that can't be promoted like Musashi and Domingo won't be outclassed by them, so go as far as you can go, promote them on level 20.

Thanks.
How about CD and 3?

>> No.2225364

>>2225348
Never played 3 and never went autism mode with CD, but it works like SFII: after a point every character comes promoted.
So just wait until you recruit Claude during book 1 or Randolf during book 2 and promote them all.

Not him but thank you! This was vital information keeping me from going back to SF1.

I remember playing through Shining Force 1 on the Sega PS3 collection and getting to the giant robot cannon on the bridge that would fire periodically every turn and damage everything in its path including enemy units.

I stuck turbo on, put the controller under a chair and went to buy snacks. Came back and won the battle.
