It is $200. The shield is much more powerful than any phone in that price range and comes with a controller. It is meant for emulation, and not for getting calls while your trying to play a game (That would have to get pretty annoying I'd imagine)

>Actually having played these games on unmodded hardware.

You do realize that both systems mentioned in your post had RGB native outputs and had SCART cables sold in their respective countries at the time, right?

Also, Kirby's Dreamland 3 uses real transparency with the SNES' rare interlaced high resolution modes, not pseudo-transparency by use of dithering like the Genesis does (And whether its "composite transparency" was intentional or not has still never been proven. Dithering was commonplace everywhere, even on PC games and arcade monitors that used high quality video connections allowing you to see each individual pixel. Besides that, Genesis composite output is god-awful and this was well known even in the early 90, to the point where EGM actually had an article showing you how to connect your Genesis to a Commodore monitor so you could actually read text for once.

CRTs has been successfully emulated by shaders. This makes bulky CRTs themselves obsolete now that we can accurately simulate their appearance on LCDs of sufficient refresh rate and resolution.

1 - there's a million CRT shaders out there that attempt to replicate CRTs and most can scale to any arbitrary resolution, so your 4k shit is retarded and shows you have little understanding of shaders in the first place. You're just shitting out buzzwords you picked up on emugen without understanding what any of it means. 2 - your "image quality" argument is subjective and irrelevant to the issue. 3 - you're a fucking moron if you think that an LCD monitor will ever fully simulate a real CRT. Will it simulate one good enough for plebs like you who don't know any better? Sure. You're the same faggots who think that emulation is identical to the real thing and can't tell the difference in sound quality between $5 dollar earbuds and top of the line headphones.

>you're the same faggots who think that emulation is identical to the real thing

Emulation is better than the real thing when it works. Which also applies to emulating old CRTs on technologically superior modern displays.

You're obviously mad and have no idea what you're talking about. Everyone already knows that 4K is needed for shadow masks to be properly emulated due to the pixels needed to recreate the phosphor mask pattern. Aperture grille can be emulated with less thanks to its more straightforward pattern. CRTs have been simulated good enough already for people who don't suffer from terminal autism.

My question is, Mayflash's adapters are generally accepted for a quick controller solution, right? Or should I have ordered an actual DualShock 3?

Hey guys, I found my old PSP phat and remember seeing here that they weren't half bad at emulation.

I read the FAQ, and it's Wiki page, but I'm still confused.

From what I understand, you need to install custom firmware in order for emulators to work.

My problem is, after some research, it seems like there are a lot of different ones, all for the version 6.60.

I'm afraid of bricking my system and I was hoping for someone who has does it successfully before to point me in the right direction. A link to a guide that works would be great. Ultimately I'd like to play NES, SNES, and GBA games.

You either want LME or PRO-C. PRO-C has some netplay support and iirc LME has a slightly wider range of plugin support, but the differences are largely unnoticeable. I like the temporary ones (I forget what they're called, I think it's why it's LME and not just ME) because they're less likely to cause permanent problems to your PSP, although that shouldn't really be an issue anyways.

Never do anything that could affect your internal PSP settings, always run everything on and from the memory stick. (Btw, you can buy an adaptor to use SD cards instead of Sony's fuckken expensive memory sticks. $15 will be enough for the adaptor and a 16 GB SD card. Install it, go to your PSP settings menu and use the "format memory stick" option so the console could adapt the card to it's needs and you could start stuffing it with roms and emulators.)

>Just wondering if I should get Doom 64 or Doom for the Game Boy Advance.

It helps turn off services and exit programs (among other things) which can help a ton. This works especially well if you know what different processes and services are.

Another few things are changing your theme to Windows Classic mode, turning the priority of the program to high priority (this can have various negative effects, none of which are permanent though.), and lowering the screen size/resolution of the game.

retroarch --menu --verbose >> log.txt 2>&1

It will load up to RGUI as if you just double clicked the executable, but it will redirect standard output and standard error to a text file called log.txt in your RetroArch folder. Use an odroid U3.
It's more powerful and it's smaler. Unsolder all the connectors you don't need (Ethernet, all usb except one or so) and there you have it.

You can trim the heatsink pins if they're too long for what you need. It has micro HDMI, connector for a backup battery so you don't lose anything, micro SD and eMMC (faster memory), it's a quad core ARM with 2GB RAM.

There are guides in the devs forum for emulating stuff.

Hey guys, so I downloaded the game and gave it a shot. Only on the first level but it plays fairly well.

You control the character by swiping left or right to look left/right, then swipe up to make them move forward. You can set them to keep running auto or hold your finger on the screen to keep going. Works okay.

Apart from that everything is just touching the interface on the screen. Touching portraits to control the character, touching enemies to target, and touching your 'combat menu' to choose attacks.

Unlocking doors etc is the same, when move close enough the reticule comes up and you touch it to interact.

tl;dr -- Can anybody recommend Android emulators for NES and Sega SMS/MD/Genesis that don't use RetroArch?

long version: I'm using a fairly outdated Android device (Nook Color running CM7 boot) to emulate /vr/ games. I have a non-RetroArch SNES emulator that runs brilliantly*. I have used it to complete FF4, 5, & 6; Zelda 3; Arcana; and Lufia 1. Audio/video sync is good; slow-down is rare.

I later learned about RetroArch and installed it to play Crystalis and other non-NES titles. Given that SNES emulation is smooth on my device, I would expect NES emulation to also be smooth.

I find RetroArch's UI to be a pain to navigate. Resume Content doesn't work, so I always have to navigate to the game folder & then select a core. It doesn't tell me the date/time of save states. It doesn't remember my on-screen gamepad overlay orientation settings and defaults to landscape, even though I always use the device in portrait, so I always have to change that (pic related: my preferred orientation). (RetroArch also sometimes reverts the overlay orientation back to landscape in-game). Most importantly, NES emulation is plagued with slowdown and audio crackling. All three native cores run NES slower than my SNES emulator! Can you recommend anything else for NES? A LOT of customization with control pad layout is a must, since I need it to look like pic related (works very well on a 3.43" x 6.10" screen).

Sega Master System/ MD/ Genesis emulation is also quite poor on RetroArch on my device; what other emulator would you recommend?

*The only problems with my previous SNES emulator were that it screws up forest tree shadows in FFV (a minor aesthetic inconvenience at most); and it basically won't play Laplace No Ma or Terranigma. I then downloaded SNES 9x to play Terranigma, and it seems to run fine. (Laplace No Ma still fails on SNES 9x).

>> No.2170132

There is not a single SNES emulator out there that has no input lag.

It's not my monitor, it's not my controller (I play with keyboard using WASD and J,K,L,etc so no chance of ghosting nor lag.

It's not my system.

My proof is that I can get no input lag on many games in MAME, and using emulators like Kega and Ootake. No input lag at all on my system.

For instance, to test, I will pause the game (emulator's pause function, not the game's pause function) then I will hold "back" (to make my character turn around) and press the key to increment 1 frame once. Then when I press the increment key one more time, the character will start moving. In Kega and Fusion my input is registered the VERY next frame. That is perfect input, and I can do it on my system with certain emulators and certain MAME games, so the fault is not with my system, controls, configuration, etc. Beside I'm not a computer/emu newb. Heck, I bet most of you here have never even tested for input lag - give it a try on your fave emulators (that have a pause and increment frame function), and you will be surprised.

Anyway, I've tested everything for SNES. There is not a single SNES emulator that is capable of this.

For instance, snes9x has about 3 frames of lag.

>> No.2170156

>>2169789
The SNES9xEX/.Emu emulators come off as more or less the same cores, but they have frameskip added for slower devices and are less of a pain to work with as a whole thanks to a better UI. They also cost quite a lot for emus though.

I know that there is an option to do that when compiling, but I haven't compiled a mame in years and don't feel like going through the trouble now.

Is there a simple ini option to list more Roms on the game select screen? Currently it just shows 15. The compiling option lets you change that number, so that you can scroll up/down the list of games.

Not much to explain. I was working on a project themed generally after the Gameboy, though obviously not designed to be a super accurate Gameboy display simulator or restricted to the Gameboy's resolution and sprite restrictions. I'm more a programmer than an artist, so during development of the project's framework I used sprites from well known Gameboy games as placeholder art assets and posted a few pictures on AGDG for feedback. So, it's not an emulation shader or a recreation of any game, just some sprites from existing games being used as placeholders during development of the rendering system.

>>2175568
It's not supposed to be an exact copy of the Gameboy's display, it's just loosely based on it. I went for full transparency because it significantly boosted the contrast and added a nice effect, especially during motion. Still working on the project in my free time, I plan on revisiting the shader eventually. I think the palette still needs a lot of work, and maybe some subtle noise in the "pixels" so the grid doesn't look so repetitive. Blending could also be smoother, though I was trying to keep the shader fairly simple for performance.

>> No.2179252

For Ocarina of Time, emulating it is potentially superior, as the GC and even the Wii VC releases have some minor inaccuracies, and only display in 480p max, whereas you can go higher with emulation, and have lots of options for enhancements like hi-res textures, widescreen hacks, etc. However, you may have to go through some hassle to get it set up (getting the right emulator or plugins, messing with some settings, etc.), whereas the GC port just werks.

As for MM, avoid the GC port at all costs. It is buggy as shit and has a chance of randomly locking up. The VC version is far better in that respect. All the stuff I just said about emulating OoT mostly applies to MM as well, although here I do believe there are a couple of unemulated effects (something to do with the Lens of Truth, although it's fairly minor).

It's not flawless. There are a handful of games with issues, namely ones that use redbook audio for music. It's pretty solid though, although PC emulation is better.

IIRC, the PS3's PS1 emulator is actually the best one, but don't quote me on this.

>>2184184
no one has put in the work for decent N64 emulation since we have "working" ones, and all the major emulators were designed to run well on hilariously low-spec machines, making severe accuracy tradeoffs in the process (pretty much just enough to run popular games is implemented)

>>2190078
eh?

I can run shit like KOF2002UM and Contra Shattered Soldier just fine on a crappy i5 ultrabook CPU, no dedicated video. Constant 60FPS. PCSX2's gotten pretty decent lately. You might have needed a super-good machine 1 or 2 years ago (and I certainly did try before on this same machine), but these days, you can play a decent few games at good speed.

that being said, I do feel like my laptop will catch fire when I do this, the damn thing gets stupid-hot really quickly

also, that guy's machine is probably really, really bad from the sound of it (2GB 32bit Vista? It's not going to do PS2, nearly no laptop that had Vista pre-installed is going to)

Good but not perfect.
I've only tried substance and subsistence with good results.
Both were considerably heavy and I could only run them on my desktop.
2 is pretty ok but at some points you will have to use the native resolution otherwise it might crash.
3 is somewhat more complex. If you want upscale the resolution or get good performance you must use hardware mode. In that case you're losing quite a few post processing effects the game had. If you use software mode it's exactly as it should be but you'll be playing with really bad graphics resolution wise and with a pretty big burden on your CPU. I ended up switching between them all the time as I couldn't really decide.

if not, do you have a disc image mounted in a virtual drive (eg, Daemon Tools)?
SSF won't even attempt to start if it doesn't detect a disc drive.

SSF is the only good Saturn emulator, Yabause and all the others are both slow as hell and inaccurate as hell. If your PC is remotely recent (should be fine if you can emulate DC), turn the compatibility settings up (last page of settings IIRC), some games like Guardian Heroes have issues if you don't.

the first thing you should do when you get SSF working is to go play Bulk Slash

last computer I had that couldn't run bsnes was a 500MHz G3 iBook from 2001 (used SNES9x instead -- IIRC, I couldn't even try to run bsnes since it only supported G4 CPUs and up, and actually wanted a G5 for fully playable speed)
