I remember that really being a problem when the 7th gen came around and HDTVs weren't really mainstream yet. I couldn't read anything in Dead Rising and it made it really fucking hard to play. Lot of people complained about it.

I never fucking understood that. I mean sure, the resolutions have increased, but the text has started to shrink considerably in proportion. Even if you had an HDTV, the text would still be too small. In older generations, the text was big and readable given the screen proportions. Now the text is just a tiny 8*8 bitmap plastered against a 1280x720 backdrop.

That said, GTAV looked mighty fine on a CRT.

I know you probably have a spergy explanation as to why it isn't, but pretty much yes. When an image is unscaled, pixels are added to make the image large enough to fit. When you play a 360 game on a standard definition TV, the resolution isn't high enough to display a legible image.
