The horror is very well done, I'll say. It's the first horror game I would say is actually effective (besides, like that trackball arcade game where you just mutilate people. That's just disturbing).
People who claim Alone in the Dark is creepy at all are fucking retarded. The only thing close to a scare in that game is the fucking frog in the beginning; the rest is ridiculous shit.

I've been playing those a lot, but what I plan on doing most of my time off this month is watching lots of Universal stuff, and Hammer films.

Also for fun I've been learning C++ and practicing by creating an interactive horror text game. It's nothing fancy, just to help me learn the language.

I've hit most of the major classics like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, and Parasite Eve, and have began venturing into somewhat more obscure titles. I'm about to start Illbleed soon and after that, I was thinking about Martian Gothic. I still need to knock out the Clock Tower and D series' but maybe I should save them for next Halloween.

When you say "first G: do you mean the G mutant that spits out embryos or William Birkin?

If it's the G mutant then you shouldn't be having much trouble with him, a handful of magnum shots should down it. if the embryos keep jumping on you then you can shake them off by pushing the analog stick or d-pad left and right real fast.

If it's William Birkin then i can see why you're having problems, the best thing to do is run by him early in the fight and then stay the FUCK away from him so that he doesn't corner you, if he corners you while you're on the ground you are fucked, period.

The parts of Akira that fucked me up weren't really the weird body horror, it was the way they beat the shit out of people on their bikes at the beginning with crowbars and most of all the shit Tetsuo's gf goes through... she's physically beaten and abused in a sexual way and later she's fucking squished to death inside Tetsuo's disgusting morphing fetus body as he describes feeling her suffer and die. In the manga she's a fucking sex slave. Something about it made me feel sicker than the body itself

Haven't played Blood Curse, but 1 and 2 are great survival horror games and most importantly they're pretty scary. They do have some odd gameplay concepts, but they're not hard to get used to.
Play them all, chronologically.

It's written by Rika Suzuki, author of Hotel Dusk and other Cing games. JB Harold is still in my backlog, though, so I don't really know if it reminds her DS games, but apparently it's good and it's considered as an iconic entry in japanese adventure genre.

I'm thinking about giving pic related a go because I hear the story is quite chilling and that it might give me a scare. But I don't know Anonymous, as much as I love 8-bit graphics, they kind of annoy me in RPGs. Please don't get me wrong, the NES is my favorite console, this is just when it comes to RPGs.

It might have to do with the fact that my first RPG was Super Mario RPG and it spoiled me quite a lot graphics-wise.
