ITT: We discuss and list horrible mistakes in game that are common. I'll start

>Picking up a shitty weapon in Castlevania when you have a good one

You dont need to create stupid threads just because you know

Forces you to be insanely careful when killing stuff, less you grab a clock or a knife from something you just killed.

Shit like that also makes no whip upgrade runs hard as shit. The challenge comes more from not picking up a whip.

>tfw you accidentally pick up the dagger sub-weapon when you had a boomerang or holy water with triple shot before

>> No.1916774

The worst part is when the game intentionally places a shitty item before a boss or area where the better weapon would be more useful

I love Castlevania but I hate that sort of bad-faith design. Rondo of Blood letting you switch back shortly if you fuck up is a godsend

The torch doesn't seem too bad in the arcade version. I was watching someone do a playthrough and they used the torch through most of the game, but the NES torch is a pile of shit.

Bell power-ups are much easier to get in the AC TwinBee. Not sure why they mess up the color changing pattern in the FC version.

Phantom of the Paradise

>> No.1919801

>>1916774
Indeed, ifyou pay attention, there's a pattern.

Each time you enter a new "section" of a stage, you'll realize the most useful weapon for that part was the one you found in the PREVIOUS section. If you're smart, this allows you to decide/foresee which weapon to wear.

>> No.1919828

>>1916875
Torch is used by speedrunners because it has the best damage potential when used with skill. For regular players, very short range and limited projectiles (only two on screen, including the long-lasting ground flames) make it a poor choice for most situations.

>> No.1921058

>be me
>be playing Castlevania 1
>level 3, have level 3 holy water
>hit a candle
>clock falls out
>stand there and wait for it to disappear
>randomly decide to crouch for some reason
>a treasure bag magically appears behind me

I love accidentally finding secrets like that.

>> No.1921089

>>1916774
The idea is that if you die, you get to start with a new weapon right before the boss.

Not really the smartest design, but at least it's not as stupid as the random weapon drops that occur once every 100 enemies or so.

Why SHOULDN'T you use the stormtrooper rifle? I can see it being less accurate from a distance, but for close fights bringing out the pistol just screams "kill me". Especially when you get to the unforgiving enemies and minibosses.
