I'd be 100% fine with a fan-made campaign that was competently made.

But as far as official games, I think that's what Dishonored is. For something new, ideally, a successor would be less about killing and more about thievery, but I'm not sure how the story would play out other than a government conspiracy. I know there could be supernatural stuff, but that's not something I think you can guess without knowing that story's lore.
I'd prefer no undead, though, I always thought they were out of place in thief & thief 3.

I just beat Undercover in Thief Gold. I went crazy for about 30 minutes trying to figure out the switch I found near the broken fire place. Eventually I checked a walkthrough and saw there were a bunch more switches. Most interestingly is that the walkthrough said that inside a locked crate there was information describing where the switches are located. This makes me think my game is bugged because the crate is empty. Pic related. Is this crate empty in your game too, or is it just me? This is the room that has the wooden door and the two valuable wine bottles in it.

They made sense plot-wise for sure, but Thief 1 felt like I was playing as a thief character from a Final Fantasy game instead of a guy who stole stuff
The 1st and 2nd missions felt like a stealing stuff game, but after that, it was too spooky for me (no meme intended)
Thief 2 was exactly what I wanted out of a Thief game, and the spooky stuff felt more natural to me

For a few years now I've just been hoarding FMs without really playing them. I've just been replaying the base games over and over.

Over all this time I accumulated well over 135 missions/campaigns. Since I don't play games much anyway I decided that instead of replaying Thief like I have done for the past 6 years I'm going to get through all these fan missions.

Looking for some suggestions with which ones I should tackle first. Yesterday I started playing through The Black Frog. I think I might play through Ominous Bequest Gold next or Seven Sisters.

Maybe. The bottom two floors have to be completely redone to make the whole level interesting and give more objectives.

Casing The Joint is boring as hell, even if you have to ghost it. And Masks is too short and nothing of interest happens. I mean you can crawl across the rafters of the entire level to beat it, without ever alarming anyone.

it's a fast as you make it, really.

If you're going through a level and carefully blackjacking and hiding bodies then it's going to be slow.

If you're willing to take risks, you can speed through a level pretty quickly.
Most levels will eat up about 45+ minutes your first time through. But there's always plenty of objectives and the levels are quite large.

But, it's a stealth game, it's obviously going to be pretty slow (compared to non-stealth games) regardless.

Based on what you've said I would say no, but that you should give it a shot. It will obviously be much slower if you carefully sneak your way through, but in my experience a balls-to-the-wall playthrough can be pretty damned fun too.

Most of the issues that bother me can be fixed with mods. Some things that currently haven't been: split levels (otherwise, the map size would be pretty decent). Game rendered cutscenes. Animations. Some poor voice acting that didn't seem to fit.

The game rendered scenes could actually be fixed. I've considered doing it myself... Wouldn't be impossible. Just time consuming. Unfortunately I don't have the time atm.

The levels are MUCH MUCH bigger and overall the games are much more difficult. The level structure is also linear with you going from level 1>2 etc rather than having a main open world hub and choosing your levels. Also you never ally with pagans or hammerites.

Guys, perhaps this should be a separate thread, but I want to bring it up here: To what extent do you think Deadly Shadows represents what HAD been planned for Thief III before things went bust? I guess the discussion will be without any real evidence, mainly just from vibes between DS and the other games, unless anyone remembers reading anything about it in any magazines or any online articles at all? But I would be happy just to hear what people think about how much progress they think was made as well.

I was just reading the Wikipedia entries for the Metal Age and Deadly Shadows, (I wanted a brief nostalgia because I haven't got time to play anything right now) and they do state that work was underway on what was to be Thief III and in 'a fairly advanced stage'. It states that a few former LGS employees worked on DS, but it also reveals some of the initial plans they had in mind for III. Have a look, it talks about having a free-roaming city, which we got, and a story where Garett would learn that there were consequences to his actions, which I guess we kind of got, and that he would have to learn to give, as well as take. It mentioned they wanted it to tie up loose ends, which I think it did. I would go into more detail about the differences that I find between the DS and its predecessors, but I don't want to make too much of a wall of text, so I'll put my thoughts in later - if anyone is interested in discussing it here.

I think the final product of Deadly Shadows is awfully close to the original concepts but just like in Thief 2, the company imposed restrictions upon the dev team and this had repercussions. Deadly Shadows was severely affected in quality as a result and instead of the LGS' golden dream we got our console diluted Thief.
