I'm going to bust out the NES next weekend to show my nephew Bubble Bobble while the rest of the family makes cookies, but he's a little shit so he probably won't appreciate it.

I'm planning on taking my GF on a date next weekend, first we'll go to one of those Bubble Tea shops that she adores... then we get back home and play some Bubble Bobble, she's a fan of the series, which is awesome. I think she'll enjoy a Bubble Tea and Bubble Bobble date.

Hopefully it all goes well in it.
Wish me luck, lads!

whats the best puzzle bobble

Also, what's going on with the franchise? I see some new games on Steam and Switch, but they just look... is it even Taito anymore?

Based and puzzle pilled.

I like 2 the most, but that's mainly due to nostalgia probably. The series also does this weird shit where one instalment they'll add a new puzzle mechanic, but remove it and replace it with something else entirely in the next one. Big GameFreak vibe. Puzzle Bobble 2 is kinda basic, but the graphics are really charming and the music is cute.

3, but 4 and 2 are also great.

The new ones are just keeping current, I think. Provably a "the games are probably real easy to spit out annually, so why not?" Kind of thing.
They're for a more modern audience, seemingly(?) younger audience with the cute factor and cutscenes, but the gameplay is mostly the same I think. I've played both the new Puzzle Bobble and the 4 Ever game only a little, but if you don't have a reason to get them/can still play the older ones, just do that.

I was in love with the game as a preteen, my favourite NES game ever.
I still emulate it in MAME and some other ports, like the Switch version.

I've played both 1 and 2 on NES recently, it's just crazy how much of an improvement the 2nd one actually is, feels like a generational leap at times.

I was at one of those trendy bars with arcade machines and I got the high score on Bubble Bobble so I set my name to "FAG". The next time I went there the machine was gone. I like to think I was the reason this happened but they probably got rid of it because it wasn't popular.

I bubble on occasion. Managed to play through the entire first NES game with a friend until a certain level. Can't remember which one but it was so ridiculous we had to look up a password to get past it. The boss was pretty gnarly too.
