Played Ninja Gaiden on PS3 and I think it shouldnt be called NINJA Gaiden.
Sword Master Gaiden, Samurai Gaiden, etc.

But no stealth, no stealth kills from the shadow, etc.
I think sword fight should be optional there.

I'd take Shinobi 1987 arcade, The Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer (Genesis) and Shinobi III over the original Ninja Gaiden NES trilogy. The NG games are still great though.

For everything else with the Shinobi name attached I'd take Ninja Gaiden games over them and PS2 Shinobi never held a candle to NG on the Xbox.

I like both franchises. They go in pretty different gameplay directions so there's plenty of variety to playing either franchise.

shinobi ps2 never being accepted cuz it was a real action platformer in 3d and not the gated brawler sims like dmc. emphasized movement with the blood sword! thats badass. stylish action or whatever the kids call em are mad gay. shinobi 4 life.

Swap the Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 scores and I think you have a perfect list. I understand not liking 3 though, they made the game slower and made the physics super floaty. I enjoy it regardless of that however. For Ninja Gaiden 2, I can't quite put my finger on why I don't like it so much. Id say it comes down to thinking the music is mediocre, and the level designs not being particularly fun. The game is like Ninja Gaiden 1 but with tons of gimmicks slapped on top, meanwhile 3 added new things like vertically scrolling stages.

I liked Strider 2 on the PS1 but it tended to get pretty button mashy, still a fun game though. The original never really clicked with me sadly. Unironically my favorite from the franchise is actually the metroidvania reboot.

Shinobi PS2 had a fantastic combat system, shame the devs decided to make you spend more time doing shitty platforming segments than with actual combat. Classic case of a dev not knowing how to play to their game's strengths.
