Are you just talking about the first game or the SNES trilogy in general? There is a lot to like about RS2 and 3. Many different characters to build parties with, natural growth so if you want to get better at something you just do it in battle, you can quickly open up the world and explore along with doing quests at your leisure. Learning skills mid battle is great. All weapon classes are viable and have a long list of techniques to use. It checks off most of what makes RPGs fun. Making parties, developing characters and being able to use new skills, and exploration.

Depends how motivated you are. Retroarch's AI translation tool works well enough for it to get the meaning accros about 80-90% of the time. it's useless for menus / inventory stuff but for that there is a FAQ on gamefaqs that does the translation.
("Cockroach" isn't a mistranslation btw, I know it sounds weird but that's intended)

No, but it's non-linear. You open the world up through two methods. First one is to talk to people and you'll unlock areas on the world map and you can access them through the map. The other way is by exiting certain maps and finding places adjacent to the area.

I tried the first game recently (fan-translated) and it seemed to suck. I guess it has some interesting stuff in it but I didn't bother playing far into it because the early part of it was crappy to the point that it felt broken. I tried the second one after that (remade version since there was no complete fan translation) and it was impressive and interesting. It doesn't do everything well but it's surely one of the coolest SFC JRPGs. I have not tried the third one yet.

Check out Aerobiz and its sequel Aerobiz Supersonic. You assume the role of a CEO hell bent on increasing the stats of your airline, you have to choose which planes are in your party and where to send them. It's turn based, like all of the classics, but with a unique twist: there's no inventory management like other role playing games. Plus, it's open world because your party members will traverse the entire globe. That's part of what makes it a top ten RPG for SNES.

Legend of Mana is not superior to any of the other games in the series, I don't like the series after playing them all but Legend is in no way "the best", it's like a shitty side story you need a guide to even play "the right way", which is somehow more annoying than the old games that you need a guide for to use mechanics the right way, Legend just feels like a failed experiment

FF Tactics is shit, Shining Force is a better series. Nobody thinks Chrono Cross is better than Trigger.
