V90 is chill but the built-in quake doesnt let you look up or down like ps1 quake 2 can. Even in the controls menu it panics. Still a great demo of the power of the powkiddy. Yeah its a little more money but there's no yeah maybe moment on select games and it crosses over into way more playable gamecube and ps2 games than RP2, 20 dollar difference on amazon between the two, good move to ditch anbernic 353m for an RP3 considering the difference is roughly a V90 in price to do way way way more than a V90, RP2, or 353M. I do the RP2 and ill forever be thinking about that 40 dollars I could have spent to play SSX at full speed. 200 bucks, we're talking the same amount I paid for a PSP by itself, no games, in 2005. Plus spending the first big paycheck on an incremental upgrade would bring great shame to this internet basket weaving forum as previously stated by smart smart anons so Im compelled to do it. Still 200 less than a steam deck too, longer battery life than a steam deck, and my phone can make it to end of day without flopping now doing everything plus games.

And for those that it plays enjoy fucking around with settings each time, rebooting the game 2341 times to get 30fps.

This chipset is just borderline acceptable is all I'm saying. You need to realise that shit like Samsung s10e from 2019 get gamecube at 2x internal res 100% fps, psp @ 3x res 100% fps and yet it's cheaper.
Even if you don't like smartphone gaming - it highlights an issue with RP3+ for 200$.

Dark days for RP3+, some games run at 70-99% only and some games I dont even want to play in the first place....might run at only 20%. No choice but to buy a significantly more expensive handheld now...or go to settings and get back to 100%, but thats just, could you imagine, imagine going to settings, nah just pay double the price of the RP3+.

When they first announced this, I was 100% sure they were going to miss their shipping deadlines by 6+ months for the third time in a row. I'm like 60 - 70% sure they'll start shipping on time now, possibly even start shipping ahead of December. It took me a while to figure out how this happened, but I think I've figured it out: they wanted to officially announce the thing several months earlier, but all the issues with Loki got in their way. So basically, all the delays we would've otherwise seen have already been baked in. They literally couldn't announce it too early (like they probably wanted and originally intended to) because of the Loki shipping fiasco getting in their way.

on the desks of the two children nearest to the camera we see some 4:3 devices with what I'm hoping are 4 inch displays (to compete with Anbernic's RG405M/V).
the wall at the back has some images of flowers that are presumed to be Snapdragons, obviously a hint toward an upgraded processor.
the blackboard on the right side of the image shows a dpad above a thumbstick, (thank god).
there's probably more hidden in the image as well but those are the most obvious ones. hopefully the 4:3 devices on the desk aren't just misdirections.

I've dealt with having to do the same thing with some Switch and PS3 games emulated on my friend's 'eck, but it seems like every PS3 title was hand-crafted to emulate by entire teams of dedicated fans. Anyway, nice try. There is an issue of the screen scrunching GBA titles due to its resolution, though.

Also it's just the SNES emu port that runs into double-boot speed issues on sf2000, not GBA or any other.

And before you say - I do have proper GBA bios in, as there's a bug that prevents the emulator from loading the proper bios file - I know that too.

Only real downside is the screensize, thobiet it's a big downside imo.

So these are my current favourite handhelds, tho keep in mind*

*I literally just got my Flip5 and have to spend time sending my old Samsung Galaxy S9 data and content over (my phone since 2018) and then setting things up for DS and 3DS emulation specifically).
*I use the SF2000s so much because they're just such a perfect form factor, the highest durability I've seen since Nintendonium, and only cost $20 so are easily replaced if something does happen to them. Otherwise I prefer the RetroMini for GB/GBC/GBA/NES emulation specifically and the RG35XX for reliable, no effort SNES emulation and some fun PSX moments.
*I only like the blue/gray famiclone because I found it at Value Village for $5. Don't buy it at full price, ever, but for $5 it's pretty sweet.

My end goal for the moment is to just use my SF2000s as I currently am, playing DS and 3DS games on my Z Flip5 as well as Pokemon Go, Game Dev Story (NOT Tycoon), and Sonic Speed Simulator in Roblox (seriously that shit plays better than most 3D Sonic games since Sonic Adventure 2), and once the R35S arrives using that for the specific few N64, DreamCast, and PS1 games I know it can handle and want to play in handheld form (like Ape Escape and Sonic Adventure 2). Like, I got the 2S, and it can play a handful of quality GC games, but that's absolutely not the reason I got it. I know that in a few months it's GCN/PS2 performance be rendered obsolete by some other ~$120 device that outshines in, and so on. I just wanted the nice form factor and build quality to better play PSX and dreamcast on.

My current policy is to never purchase a performance upgrade unless I'm getting 80% compatibility with a library that I couldn't emu before. Otherwise, it's just a money pit of inching your way to progress. Does that make sense?

It haunts my waking mind thinking about how I could possible make a speaker vent on my gba's left side. Without it looking like fucking shit. I know this is impossible but I can't stop thinking about it. It's been a year since I started thinking about it. The games sound so fucking good in stereo on pretty much any emulation or ds. How do I stop thinking about this.

That's true I could just buy shells from China and experiment. Pic related is the best one I've seen anyone do. For the most part, images of these are gore. I figured maybe if I put some black mesh behind the holes and used black shells, I could maybe get away it. Ideally just 2 or 3 small holes by start/select. Would need to find the lowest satisfying number of holes to reduce the final surgery. I could quiet the right side speaker to balance the volume, with both speakers being louder than vanilla anyway. I just haven't had any luck with drilling holes in plastic and having it come out looking like it's "supposed" to be that way in the past, is what makes me want to forget

I have a GBC with a dead screen that a friend gave me as a kid, I used to use it to trade pokemons between my two games going entirely blind on the GBC from muscle memory. I love the Pocket form factor and I've looked at the Pocket Color mods, but (obviously) they're all pretty difficult, even the ones that don't use a brand new PCB.
I have a soldering iron I used for a few little things (mainly soldering a couple wires for my GBA ITA screen), but I doubt I could do a chip like the GBC CPU without fucking it up.

I don't recommend it until you feel confident. I've been painting all my life and those skills translate surprisingly well into soldering. My brain just sees it as painting with hot shiny metal. Those LED practice kits that have 3 different color/size boards with chips are amazing to try on. I also immediately got a TS100 and more tips which helped immensely. Then a hot air station. Just takes practice.

The main thing is that Qualcomm has a glut of these chips because smartphone demand is down. So it's easy for someone even as small as AYN to get hold of them especially when they already worked with Qualcomm to get some remaining Snapdragon 845s from them. This is a win win to get rid of supply of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips because they overproduced for smartphones. It's really on AYN to get these into units and ship them, not a supplying issue like with most handhelds which get scraps.
It's really a shame because it's one of the best chips Qualcomm has done since their Krait chips and the GPU is so good it STILL mogs the iPhone in everything from raw power to power efficiency with the only exception being ray tracing (why would you do this on a mobile device right now?) and with active cooling, it's now back to the software developers to figure out how to use the power seeing as basically through brute force, it can shred everything 7th gen and only Switch emulation is somewhat of a challenge but only if you enhance it with higher resolutions and etc.

I have never held an ROG Ally, so I can't really compare. The Deck is quite heavy, so holding it up for long periods of time in a single position gets tiring, but if you can rest your elbows on something it pretty much gets rid of that problem. And as for "hand feel", it's really really good. The controls are placed very well to all be accessible without moving your grip (the back buttons maybe slightly less so but even then they're quite good). The weight seems well balanced to me, and the grips feel as nice to hold as any full size controller.

There was a ton of glue on this Gameboy screen so I used a q-tip of acetone (retard alert) to try to loosen it, and when I was done, these blotches showed up. Do I need a new screen? Or can that reflective backing be replaced or repaired somehow? Give it to me straight. I'm pretty bummed out.

Not exclusively SSX3, SSX3 was the most demanding thing on my list. Rp2 could do SSX3 with a bunch of tweaks and at a lower res. SSX3 without tweaks on RP3+ native turned out to be an excruciating 45fps low to 60fps norm, so if I do the same things that RP2 did I could either lock-in regular framerate, do some speedhacks, or do 45fps at 1.5 to 2x like some PS2 games on RP3+. There's a video of a guy doing Sly Raccoon on PS2 where he does some tricks and it runs just as choppy, but then he can boost the res and it stays as choppy, or he can trade the res for native but smooth. Im not aiming for super-resolution on a handheld, considering my options before this was SSX gba I'd be pretty chill with real-time SSX3. Ive got games below the hardware requirements of gamecube, but I just dont need to ask about about playability like people buying a steam deck dont need to ask about how well ps2 games will run.

SSX3 is one of those games that I can sink loads of time in, so having a handheld that could do everything and then stall after Dreamcast/PSP means I'd still be orbiting the PC for one last game. If I can hit one lone gamecube game (I guess ps2 had ssx3 but I never see people demoing it on RP3+ so it must be harder to run?), I could use this handheld for however many years until I can step-up to a handheld under 150 dollars that can do BF3, Killzone 2, PGR3, GTA4, MW3 wave mode, Forza 3, Uncharted 1 2 3, L4D1 and 2, Supreme Commander 2, Crysis 2 and 3, black ops zombies, far cry 3, Gran Turismo 5, Just Cause 2. I dont think we'll hit that list of games for a while without having a gamegear size, battery life, and price attached for quite some time. Its an everything handheld gen 2 like my old psp that could do GBA and N64 until I left it in the bottom of a backpack with thawing waterbottles.

try drying it first. if that doesn't work: is that the backlight? and the LCD part just pops out? if so, that makes things a lot easier. the damaged part is the LED diffuser film, which you can buy somewhat cheaply. I recommend trying to get the old one out first, then replace it with regular paper to make sure you can get it back together and it still works. paper doesn't diffuse light well, it just reflects it, so the light will be very uneven. depending on how much you paid for that screen and how long the repairs will take you, it might be cheaper to just buy another screen.

I dunno, I hyped myself up getting a premium modern smart phone after using my Galaxy S9 for the past five years and wanted to treat myself. Even knowing what a meme foldable screens are. I just miss the old days before smart phones where I had a flip phone, that shit was so tight back in the day... but now, it just feels like one extra step having to open my phone when I have become so accustomed to just pulling my phone out and it being open for the past decade with my Galaxy S3, S6, and S9.
I do feel like I made a mistake and should have just got a Google Pixel instead. Aw well. I have it now. I'm gonna do tons of EBA and Osu on it.

Im not that guy, but when I try steam link it fails and there's no way of getting back in contact with the computer remotely, I know its not meant to be used away from home but its so close to being good if it didnt panic and throw me to some blackout in desktop or "error contacting". When Im home and using steamlink I have to ask myself why Im bothering with some 200ms delay when I could play it from the computer itself, when Im away from home its sort of ok until something itunes pops up or a friend sends a steam message or anything at all happens outside the steam environment that crashes the stream.

How much would it cost to get a pc to turn itself on, log itself in remotely and then activate steam link remotely? That would save the steam link, a series of Pee Wee style breakfast machines to get steam link to work away from the pc. Only other useful scenario is if some homeless guy breaks in and smashes all my tvs and monitors then leaves. Then Id have a reason to steam link within 50ft of my pc.

Loki zero is like a mini steam deck, still feels very bulky.
Win600 feels like the OG Nintendo switch, albeit with double the thickness.
Win600 definitely gives less strain than loki zero on prolonged gaming sessions.

Win600 anal log and it's placement sucks but i dont play much 3d games on it, mainly indie games and VN.
I'm playing 13 sextinals and 428 shitbuya scramble on it.
Stray works fine too.
I do think dpad on win600 is better than loki zero. Loki zero dpad feels mushy.

Got my hands on an Odin Lite the other day. Not much to add that hasn't already been said other than for its price and for what it is its breddy gud. It took a while to get the hang of Android emulation and to find out the Odin Lite has 3 total performance modes, but so far I was able to get mostly playable performance on Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Super Mario Sunshine on the MMJR emulator, albeit with some graphical issues with Sunshine and performance drops on CC due to playing on the "Standard" performance preset at the time. It set off my autism hearing the intro with slowdown, gonna try replaying the game with higher performance modes to see if I can lock the game to 100% speed.

Other than doing tests soon to see if I can run the PS2 Silent Hill/Fatal Frame games and Eternal Darkness for Halloween, I'm happy. Yeah the Steam Deck is comfy on its own and very powerful, but its not something I'd want to use in bed. And the Windows Ayaneo Air is comfy but the battery life is atrocious, so this is a nice middle ground. Will be interesting to see how Android devices improve from here.

Anyone have one of the Backbone controllers?
I had a 35xx for a while and it was a nice device but it was kind of uncomfortable for anything needing the shoulder buttons, RP3+ looks interesting but its expensive for what it is and its basically just a phone with some controls taped to it anyway

Mostly I just want something to play GBA and DS, I have a compatible phone already

I like buying these things for around $50-60, me being the dude waiting on the R35S to arrive. If I wasn't already waiting on the R35S, I'd likely jump on this just to test it in person. I'm a vertifag but I do feel higher-end 3D consoles need a horizontal format (with d-pad on top, both sticks on the bottom) and this device fits the bill.
Strange that it advertises itself as a PSP machine so damn hard when it can't even do full PSP emulation. It appears to be Hardkernal's strongest handheld device, and for $50 it seems to be a good steal, but I have absolutely no experience with his company and its products and for all I know the device could end up feeling like it's made out of 3D printed and gumball machine plastics and needlessly heat up like an oven.

Have been playing the heck out of The Legend of Dragoon lately. Undubbed with the 60 item limit fix. I 98%ed this game as a kid and ally subsequent playthroughs fell through for some reason or another; but I feel like this time is the one! This game is so comfy. I love it so much.

Battery life for even the more intensive games is like 4-5 hours at minimum maybe more but I dom't let the battery go below 30%. I debloated it and filled it with emulators(not from google play but apkpure or similar sites) It's a phone so I expect the device to last me a very long time. And the razer kishi v1 is so cheap I bought two so even if the control wears down or I change phones; it'll last me a very long time. doesnt play saturn or dreamcast very well though. :(
For me; it's the perfect set up. Absolute kino for bedtime gameplay.

Got the RP3+, SSX3 runs at native 60fps and jank steamdeck res, who was whining about 20fps on pal fifty copes ago? This thing plays everything Ive thrown at it. However google play does NOT have roller coaster tycoon classic, only the new rollercoaster tycoon 7 app F2p P2W game in shitty 3D. AAAAAH! - Cheap beat up handheld that you can rough it up, also suitable to be given for toddlers who dont take care of their shit - SF2000 (horizontal) (max SNES GBA)
- Best value vertical - RG35XX (vertical) (max PS1)
- Best value horizontal - X55 (horizontal) (max PSP GC DC)
- Cheap x86 - Win600 or Loki Zero (horizontal) (max PS2, best for indies, VN, cultured games. Games like Stray, FF7 Crisis Core works fine.
- Best overall - Steam Deck (horizontal) (runs almost everything)

Yeah this is going to be my coasting device, like if someone made a psp2 but it was good. Need to figure out pico-8 and find a cable to charge it and multitap in some wired controllers. Wish I wasnt so lazy right now to do the full mod mix on it. Im kind of jumping between dreamcast and gamecube games because I forgot to put the bios in for ps2 and ps1 last time I connected.

Only real carp about it, maybe that it doesnt have the suicide spring on the SD card, so while it doesnt shoot the SD card across the room, it does need me to knife it out. I also merged the wrong folder directory on ps1 so Ive got to manually hide each wrong game piece by piece or sort through a bunch of gba snes n64 neogeo dreamcast games in the ps1 menu. For whatever reason I can re-scan and remove the old folder but the wrong games still show up mixed with ps1 because I selected one directory parent too high unless I go to each one to hide. Need to change the sleep timer, need to change the main background, need to figure out how to remap the doom mod structure, some controls carry over but others duplicate so triggers are changed to fake keys along with the d-pad making for some goofy weapon swap+throw a grenade issues I figured out on the tablet version before. I think Im all set now, just a matter of tuning it all to make sense. Lots of game-by-game basis remaps from before Halo/Alien Ressurection standardization.

finishing off building my rom library for when my 3+ arrives soon and scrolling through cdromance it seems everything on this device was a fuckign spinoff or a port
