Mogs ps1 arcade “ports”
Sega games good
Decent action RPGs and JRPGs

Saturn is like the N64 OP. You play it for the first party games, not obscure Japanese stuff. If you want good shmups try Genesis or Dreamcast instead.

WRONG the obscure Japanese stuff is half the fun of this console, and the n64 didn’t have any obscure Japanese stuff so not sure who you're trying to trick with that one

It did, though. They're just not as heavily discussed as the ones on Saturn. It even got a Taisen Puzzle-dama game and several mahjong and pachinko titles

OP did you end up trying any games? Please share screenshots etc.

It's a pretty fun console if you can get it up and running or can afford the og hardware. There are still a few games on it I still want to try like Terra Cresta 3D and Planet Joker. And the sports games, particularly the NBA and NHL ones by SEGA

High Velocity is a cute game. Went in expecting some hardcore semi-realistic racer and got a fun colorful arcade racer almost akin to the Choro Q titles. Best of all it's by Cave

A bit off topic... but how the hell do you emulate this thing? I don't have the strongest hardware to work with, I've got a laptop from around 2016 or something, with 4GB of RAM, Intel i3 4x 2.40GHz and a smartphone with 2x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A73 + 6x 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53, SAMSUNG Exynos 7 Octa 7904 and 4GB of RAM too. I've tried Yaba Sanshiro 2 on my smartphone, it didn't run all too well, then I tried Mednafen on my laptop and it ran even worse even after tinkering with the settings. I'm not even trying to play graphically demanding stuff, even stuff like Bomberman and Sonic 3D Blast, which are sprite based, don't run well at all for me no matter what...

Do people who make these threads even try any games from the system first? Like do they try googling "best saturn games" and play some of those before taking a thread slot? Do they even play any of the games anons recommend them after making the thread??

Mednafen on retroarch works nice. I think it has a standalone but it's one of the harder emulators to configure.

I'm still waiting for them to fix Yaba Sanshiro 2 since the latest update made everything unplayable on my device, which used to run everything at full speed even at 2x and 3x resolutions. No clue what they did or why

On Android I can just download an APK, on Chrome Google made this harder to do so I just stick with my secondary device (TV stick) for now which is at least playable for most games

I had N64 and my sister had PS1 as a kid which later became mine, but never a Saturn. I've long debated getting one, it's not even my favorite SEGA console but something about it looks so cool. Only person I knew with one was my cousin, but that was in the mid/late 90's
