Chaingun is a good way to quickly stun lock them if they're trying to kill you at range. At closer ranges a SSG blast is a pretty safe way to kill them immediately, just don't miss or you're going to eat shit. Like with almost every fight, having a escape plan is a good idea, or the very least put a wall between you and the Chaingunner, or even better: Another monster.

Depends on the situation.
At leisure, four taps of the fire button with the chaingun, spaced out just enough to keep accuracy at 100%.
If one absolutely has to die quickly at range, rocket.
If one absolutely has to die quickly at close range, super shotgun.
If many of them, all in view at the same time, absolutely have to die quickly, BFG.

I tired a lot of the settings with the port set to ZDoom family and I think they may be unavoidable. You could try changing the port in Obisidian's settings to Boom. I don't know shit about making maps but I started generating maps for Boom instead and I haven't run into one of those tunnels yet. I did a playthru of Travail back in 2021 (as an intermission for that russian Zelda Q2 mod in times when it was being an utter bitch to deal with) but didn't made any screencaps of it unfortunately, and to be honest I could only 100% all the secrets because the mod comes with uncompiled maps you can look up in TB.

Speaking of, when I started to compare quality of latest release of Obsidian and Oblige, I noticed that Oblige maps are just... better? They have less dead ends, less giant empty rooms, and are better paced. If there's an area in Oblige, it is guaranteed to be useful.
Even when I set Obsidian for smaller and tighter maps, it still keeps generating tons of useless nooks and crannies.

Obsidian maps are fully of flashy sector art, but that's their only advantage.

I think I might be having the same or similar problem as the other anon with the passive enemies. I go into the map, pick up the shotgun that's already there, use it to kill the flayworm that drops in behind you. And for some reason that means the other enemies don't alert to me. I can kill the worm with the knife or with my fists or even not at all and the other enemies will alert just fine. I tested with my shotgun and an MBR I had in the storage rift and it still does it. Starting the episode from a new game and it works as it should.

Now that I think of it, some enemies weren't alerting to me and spawning in when they should've before, either. But I was guessing it was the knife, not Berserk. But I was using Berserk on every map.

I play community created content just fine. I just dont play shitty maps that aren't fun. My time is valuable and theres tons of wads to play. Especially maps that spawn a circle of barons and a archvile in a tiny space around a key after a long route of boring hallways. Especially when its being skimpy on medkits and ammo. We didn't have H.P Lovecraft's fucking cat mapping for Ad Mortem, what the fuck do you want? I get keeping some 'no-no' words off of projects like these which unlike HFFM isn't steeped deeply in ironic/"ironic" gay jokes and general goofy obscenity, but that's completely missing the context.

Lovecraft had a cat which was honest to god named Niggerman, which is funny at a glance because it feels like another example of his infamously extreme and sometimes bizarre xenophobia and racism. It's a frequently joked about aspect of his works.

Where it gets more interesting is when you find out that it was his father who named the cat, and that as he mellowed in his attitudes with age, coming to terms with how he's actually a fucking weird person who isn't fit for society, he had thoughts about renaming the cat, but decided it would be unkind to force an elderly cat to learn a new name.
He wrote Niggerman into one of his stories, which had someone make a joke about calling for his help in the face of one of the cosmic horror monsters he famously wrote, and the line is quoting that joke.

tl;dr it's a joke about Lovecraft's racism and the absurdity of both a housecat named Niggerman of all fucking things, but also the absurdity of calling for its aid against evil deities. You act like it's a page out of The Turner Diaries or some shit.

A few more questions about Cube. Does petting him do anything more than this? What determines how much experience he gets from killing enemies? He's at 140ish/400 right now and one encounter had him go right to level two. Reloading and doing the same encounter and he's barely breaking 160. Weird.

The scythe deserves some love too for sure. There's just very little I can do for it to make it a legendary artifact because it's not exactly possessed or speshul. Although it does have a mind of its own as it'll refuse to stay on you if you're evil. Maybe I'll expand on that, though I'm not sure how I feel about ALL the artifacts being properly sentient. It seems kinda weak. I may redo the lore for that one entirely.

For the Candlelight thing, I don't think so. At least not how you probably want it. The spell itself uses just a dynamic light, whereas the option requires a fullbright powerup, which renders the former useless. I might be able to reimplement the anti-stealth effect itself. Will try that tomorrow. I never use the enhanced night vision so expect a lot of creative liberties to get applied. No guarantees because I can already see cloaking shields giving me a fucking headache.

Okay, heres an idea I've been toying with for a while:

A doom overhaul mod where you play as that gay pink spider (aka Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel), which combines visual novel elements with a Pizza Tower/WarioLand 4 style of gameplay (get to the end of the level, flip a switch, run back to the beginning and GTFO before it blows up).

Plot Summary: you play as angel dust, a stripper/hooker/porn star in hell who sold away his soul to the evil overlord pimp Valentino in exchange for safety and a life of superficial glamour and vice. After deciding enough is enough and he isn't gonna live like this anymore, he sets about on a journey to destroy Valentino's empire of nightclubs, porn studios, and brothels, and emancipate himself in the process.

Himself a turf-warring italian gangster, Angel Dust already has a knack for high-mobility gunplay and a taste for brutal, bloody violence, the former only helped by his being a demonically mutated jumping spider with long legs that kick like a cannonball (his default melee) and spring into the air with a charged up jump.
As such platforming and verticality would also be a key feature of the gameplay a la Golden Souls 2.

The good ending is unlocked by freeing Valentino's whores and collecting the ingredients for a Succubus Potion that will then allow those whores to gang-bang him to near-death and leave him shriveled up like a skinny prune before he eventually stumbles off the roof and falls into high-speed traffic in his leopard print boxers.

(Don't worry, he won't be making unfunny sex jokes and quips the whole time)

After weeks of work, my first map is debatably 1.0! It's balanced around UV, but supports easy and medium. Map was tested on Nugget, Woof, and GZ. Playtime is about 20 minutes or longer if you go exploring. Tell me if you find any glaring issues, and it requires OTEX as usual.

Also to the waifu project lead, the map features MUSINFO. 14100 is fucked so you'll hear a snippet of the default song before it goes into the custom MIDI.

Neat stuff, will have to give it a look later. The Doom mapping scene on the Russian and other Eastern European parts of the web is always interesting to me because of how they tend to do things kind of their own way.
Guys like Eternal and Lainos I think are some of the best Doom mappers, Eternal is probably more widely known because of Epic 2, but his great love for Eternal Doom (hence his name), is a bit less common in the overall community, yet he manages to 'sell' maps inspired by it to far wider audiences. Lainos has this particular focus on huge, fairly realistic locales for the player to search and canvas through, which are absolutely dreary, rundown, and murky, going together with some short writing to give context for just how bleak his "Testament" setting is.

Ok, now I finished it.
Visually, it's great, really good job there. I liked the rocket launcher secret room, nice easter egg. I have to ask though, why the obsession with switch operated doors? I feel they sort of break the flow instead of normal interact doors.
Encounters get better as the map goes along, though I will repeat that the start will be bad and boring for anyone that doesn't find the chaingun secret.
I also get the feeling you hate the people that will play your map. Why keep both the ssg and rocket launcher in secrets? At least the plasma is readily available.

It was beyond cool in the mindfuck department, but once the secret count went double-digits and spending almost a whole day in Diyu only to find only 17/21 sectets, it quickly stopped being fun due to FOMO/OCD kicking in at every corner that seemed to be a one-way trip way too often, same problem as with those cool big open *BUT* secret-bloated maps those dudes made for SMEJ(2)

I've started using it after fully upgrading it and I agree. Thing wrecks. The Spike Driver is also one of my favorite guns. It and the Mortis. They just feel really good to use. Like that you can work the action to empty the chamber, hold it open, and load a round directly into it before letting go. I think you could only do that when the shotgun was empty in HD, but in this you can do it in between shots even when the gun is full.

Personally, I like the early game of scrounging for ammo, so that's the gimmick of the first part which is using the chainsaw and pistol (or the chaingun) and the switches breaking the flow is intentional, though I know what you mean. It's mostly due to the fact that the rev trap is a little detailed and people kept missing the bookcase switch so I had to force them to learn about switch doors. I also wanted people to rely less on SSG usage, so there's a deliberate lack of shells in the map, while giving you plenty of chaingun/plasma, especially in the last stretch of the map. That's also why UV lacks the non-secret SSG and rocket launcher, and the other difficulties have them.

This map is absolutely miserable, I gave this several attempts and gave up, the furthest I got was the cyberdemon.
The encounters up until the plasma gun are annoying, having to fight so many mid-tier enemies with a chainsaw and a secret chaingun is a drag, I can't imagine how players who don't find the secret chaingun will play this, and the scarce resources make this drag even worse.
I felt this even worse because I had to replay through this long part several times, because I kept dying and softlocking.

The switches that open the doors should stay open, I don't want to have to press these tiny dick switches just to look around the level, and the confusing progression doesn't help.
My first attempt ended by soflocking at the starting area, between the rocks under the chainsaw.
My second attempt ended by pressing a switch behind a wall in the dining hall, before the FIREBLU took over.
In my third attempt I thought I softlocked.
On my fourth attempt I realized that the golden chair in the dining hall is a teleporter, and then I died to the cyber.
On my next attempts I tried to speedrun through the parts that I didn't like, but I kept dying, then I quit because I did not want to do all these shitty parts anymore, they have zero replayability and I've been patient enough to do it several times already.

One visual bug I found is in the rocket launcher secret; the tech light in the cave has a bleeding sector in the ceiling.
The mancubus crusher switch can be activated before it's revealed, making the mancubi not spawn when taking the plasma rifle.

Lower the difficulty from UV if you're struggling.
The map is long and saving is completely fine.
Using the chainsaw is intended and it's not actually that bad if you utilize your resources correctly. The only threatening encounter with the chainsaw is having to deal with a cacodemon and two lost souls, which is entirely possible and you're given more than enough health and armor for it.

You CAN get yourself out of the rocks under the chainsaw balcony, I added some steps so you can do so. Also, my secrets don't require wallhumping, just observation! I'm not quite sure what else I could do to make the final arena entrance more obvious, maybe put the switch in hell instead? I did forget to put trigger lines over the rest of the chair though, my bad.

No one has to. Remember the last part in the 3rd chapter. It's not really a big spoiler since it'll be in the freely available lore, but so far the idea is to make the companion a nerfed bioengineered clone of the Black Death that Solomon created himself, only with "absolute fucking cunt" toned down to maybe 6/10. But before I do that I need to cover the last and final chapter of BD's lore so I can explain how Solomon even got access to the information on the flagship. Remember that it's locked. Who do you think locked it? Oh yeah, it definitely wasn't either of them. Assuming I even go that route in the end. The final chapter will be the same regardless; it's only this particular follower I'm not too sure about. The planned lore causes more problems than it might be worth. We'll see.

Hello I am the developer of Dark Passenger, I sometimes like to lurk on these threads and after reading a few post regarding performance issues I decided to investigate the source of this problem. What I found out was that the cooldown I implemented for the crouch slide was running in the background way more often than needed. I released a fixed version (1.2.1) on my ZDoom page and on Doomworld. I still don't know why lag happens on some wads and not others so if you guys found any more instances please let me know so that I may delve deeper into this issue.

- All doors are now single use and they stay open once you activate them, and almost all switches are wider.
- The grand hall now has a more obvious switch that requires a blue skull key, and the switch behind it activates both the chair reveal and reopens the arena for castle exploration.
- Changed the dungeon switches to one switch and moved it so the bookcase lowering is more obvious
- Added some more bullets to make the beginning section a bit easier, for all difficulties
- Adjusted encounters and resources for easy and medium difficulties
- Fixed chainsaw rocks softlock
- Made the platforming secrets easier to reach

just got around to playing this map (The Terraces)
am i crazy to think this might be one of the best limit removing maps out there? everything is so incredibly detailed (not to trigger anyone but "doomcute" if you will), and the map is intertwines with itself really well.
not to mention its one of the best (limit removing) maps that give you a very large sense of scale due to all the unplayable areas with corpses around you, and the giant river of lava that surrounds the map.

Tried it, the lack of ammo definitely less painful now. I might try a no secret run once to see how the map works, but I have a feeling not very well.
The switch change is great, map feels much faster now.
Two questions: why doesn't the blue button lower the fireblu case straight away but hides a switch?

finally, i think you might wanna set the main music by changing D_RUNNIN instead of using MUSINFO. lead said its fine to do it like that and he'll take care of it accordingly. currently regular D_RUNNIN plays before your soundtrack since musinfo has a delay to it.

I'm thinking about playing this with BD critters, and I'd need to temporarily assign some DeathTypes so the some of the weapons and maybe a spell will kill the right way.

How do I find a/the Void Eye?

Is there any difference in the power output of the two battery types? I can't really tell if there's a reason to use Flux batteries if I have enough normal ones and the Soul Cube. If I understand right, empty ones can be used to eat Rifts. I haven't tried yet.

Gungnir is definitely ye olde plasma. If it doesn't work, idk. I looked at the code; it all checks out. I think I didn't add one for the Fenris because plasma gets bonus damage vs shields and Fenris's primary is supposed to be pathetic against those, but added a damagetype to it anyway.

Actual big fucking spoiler because it's a bullshit evil OP artifact and knowing when it will appear really takes away from the first-time experience: 50 rifts need to explode for the spawn chance to start going up above 0, and increases for every rift afterwards.

Output, no. The flux batteries are good for emergency situations and/or items. High-cap batteries are good for when you need sustained fire for longer. Honestly it's somewhat down to personal preference. I use flux for items and big batteries for armor, weapons, Eddie, etc.

Nope. Rifts FIX degradation on flux batteries. Voidstones can be used to eat rifts. (Pillowblaster released a new gun yesterday that uses those btw)

I guess! I didn't really see Freylis as a proper daughter, definitely not on the same level as Anastasia, since she's supposed to be more of a battle buddy. Even the original one from the HD addons is canonically a military contractor (hence her visual design).

So I now did a no secret run, and it feels like it would be a painful map to play blind. Plasma is only plentiful on the last fight, and having to shotgun/chaingun barons is not super fun. IMHO, if you don't want people to abuse the SSG on UV, remove most of the ammo but give one that's not a secret, and maybe replace the secret SSG with a box of shells.
And another thing, standing at the yellow key room, the bottom two archies don't wake up until you move out. Is that intended?
