Being a woman is living life on easy mode.

Maria, after a long hard day of getting lost in the castle, drop kicking wolves and punching demons to death, finally finds the one decent-looking entity in the building that isn't going to need a Guardian Knuckle-sandwich. She's pissed off, sick of running on spikes without protection, she's spent ages trying to find those stupid fucking stones so she can find Richter and the castle's stupid layout isn't helping. So what does a worked-up, frustrated monster of a witch do at this point? Why, she pounces upon the fresh man-meat, she devours it, the half-vampire could possibly have dematerialised to escape, but he does not. It does not even cross his mind as the vicious brute of a woman forces herself upon him in craven ragelust, as she tears his clothes from his pale, sleak body. All he can think as she brazenly and violently mounts him in carnal fury, as he raises his hand to her slight but pleasing bosoms is "I'm interested in this."

She did like I did on my first playthrough, force her way through the door without the spike breaker armor by using i-frames.

Playable character syndrome.
When you can't play as a character that appears to be a step or two ahead of your main character, your mind tends to fill in the blanks and perceive that character as doing all kinds of off-screen awesomeness that makes your character feel inadequate. If that character ever becomes playable, the player becomes much more aware of their limitations, and starts asking questions. In this case, in the original PS1 version, Maria is a total stealth ninja that comfortably gets around the castle with greater ease that you can; but by having her playable on Saturn and PSP/PS4, you know how she works and how impossible it is that she performs these feats. Note that boss fights tend to not break this illusion as hard as that golden playable status.

Agreed, people here aren't realizing that is the entire point. You are supposed to be in awe of the pains you went through to get past the spikes, and then you see she already did it with ease. It is a great moment of storytelling worthy of Super Metroid.

I wish metroidvania wasn't ruined by all the modern copy cats, dont think I can stomach playing that symphony game for the first time after 20 years of annoying ass indie games

She's mostly just there to explain to Alucard the whole Richter situation and facilitate rescuing him. Considering she was in Rondo, it would have been weird if she wasn't involved in some capacity.
