What are your thoughts on the Nintendo GameCube?

Graphics were unquestionably better on the gamecube, with games like RE4 and Metroid Prime wiping the floor with anything the ps2 shat out.

No Rare games aside from that abomination of a Dinosaur Planet knockoff Nintendo forced laxatives into their gobs to shit out.

Gamecube was more powerful than ps2

>> No.9841372

It was pretty bad. Lackluster games, the minidisc format, the awful directional pad, etc. It's not surprising it didn't sell all too well.

The GC was their worst home console. Oh yay, Mario Sunshine instead of Mario 64, Wind Waker instead of Ocarina of Time.. yawn.

At the time, I mostly quit video games once the Dreamcast died off, but since I was never really into portables the Gamecube was the great inexpensive way for me to play all the portable Nintendo games I missed out on. At the time, it was great to get a lot of GBA games for $5USD (granted mostly without manual/box) to tide me over. I remember having lots of fun playing the minigames of the Super Monkey Ball with friends, trying to outdo one another. The appreciation for the system seems to be a lot greater now, but it was still great in its day. It almost feels like the last and only time Nintendo tried to be in on the high-end high-fidelity kinds of video games but maintaining a very affordable price.

last nintendo product i ever bought. re4 and metroid prime were great, well worth the $100 or $150 i paid for the console (dont remember which).

I remember the prices later on were $100 for a GameCube or $100 for a GBA. I thought anyone who bought a GBA at that point was crazy for not picking the GameCube.

>> No.9843309

I chose it over the others at the time and did not like it. I spent most of that Gen envying my friends until I got their consoles. It was an okay console but you were a hit of an outsider here if you had a gamecube. My only flex was that I had a decent PC but that had much less clout back then. People didn't know.

>> No.9843324

It didn't have enough games and the games it did have were not what anyone asked for and no one knew to get excited for any of it. Now everyone knows how good the games were.

The GameCube struggled A LOT with particles, lighting, and postprocessing effects compared the PS2 and xBox, the myth that it was "more powerful" simply does not hold to basic scrutiny.

gamecube could do more polygons
in practice this didn't really mean much because the games looked flat and boring

Indeed, it was particles, lighting, and postprocessing that made games of that era stand out, arenas in which the PS2 and xBox could excel, but the GameCube just could not keep up.

It does when the examples on the contrary are all horrendously ugly games like Black.

Never liked the console. Still don't. Especially the weird controller.

I like the black and orange.
I had to get rid of a bunch of stuff in a move, plus needed money, so I sold my GC to a neighbor. I had a Wii anyway so I figured I didn't need it.
And I guess I don't. But it was a well made console. The Wii feels overly dense or something.

'Cube graphics were so far ahead of the competition. Little known hidden gem here, worth every penny - would be IMPOSSIBLE on Xbox or PS2.

i think early footage of Resident Evil REmake and 3.5 and Luigi's mansion and their clever use of lighting gave people the false impression that something special was going on that wasn't on Xbox.
you know what they say about first impressions.
>>9843497
aside fom picture quality all 3 look the same in assets and effects the capture method may be a bigger factor than the machines themselves...

I was born in 94, but my brothers had a NES, SNES, Megadrive, PS1 and N64, so I kind of grew up with all that. But the gamecube was my first console that was actually mine. So I've got some nostalgia just for that.

But trying to be a little bit more objective, it's third party support was terrible, and the library in general is quite limited. However, the good games that are there are some of the best games ever made. The controller is my personal favourite controller ever. Its so fucking comfy. I wouldn't want to play any game that was a GC game with it. But it was so ergonomic and I like the unique button layout.

Overall, I like it a lot. There may only be about 20-30 exclusives worth checking out, but damn they're good exclusives.
