Is it the best 2D Zelda?

>> No.9705571

>>9705559
No, A Link to the Past is. Then arguably Zelda 1 if you don't like puzzles a lot or Link's Awakening if you really love puzzles.

ALTTP is just the best balance of both and has the most mystical world

I just don't like how even the overworld has obstacles everywhere and how plastic the worldbuilding feels. There is a castle but at no time does it feel like a real kingdom. Generic animals as NPCs and a smaller village that feels like there are just two families. I know you can use the it's all just a dream thing as an excuse for that, but especially because of that the world should be more creative rather than more generic

I recently played through this on my analogue pocket as an adult. As a child it was great and beautiful and cutting edge to me in terms of what the gameboy could do. As an adult, I will say I DID enjoy it, but the world map and objectives are literally a maze that make you back track from one corner to the other endlessly. I just know the developers were going "AND DEN RITE HEEYUH, DUH RITTLE DIPSHIT HAS TO GO ARR DUH WAY BACK TO DA SHRAMP! ERR-OH-ERRUH!!!" *key multiple Asian laughters* its a time waster for stupid kids, but it is full of charm and thoughtful dungeon puzzles which make every single one seem like a giant rubiks cube.

I agree. Every time I try to replay LttP I get the Master Sword, then get through like 3-4 of the Dark World dungeons at most and then end up just not going back to finish it. It just gets very dull.

>>9705780
I do enjoy arcade games, but that's a completely different experience. Zelda is all about that feeling of going out into a world and adventuring, and an adventure feels more like an adventures when there's at least some hardship to overcome. Sand off too many rough edges and all you're left with is a stroll in the forest.

Based.

Zelda LA is and was an amazing GameBoy game. We could not believe how good it was at the time. The world is uniqe and familar, but doesn't feel like a complete LttP ripoff. It's certainly not as well designed as LttP. The dungeons are a hit and mix. Some have some very frustrating areas, like the card suite enemies, but at the same time, the Turtle Rock dungeon is one of the best 2D dungeons of all, if not the best. It's long, mazy and hard and unique. Great last dungeon that makes you want to play the game to get there, but you're going to spend some time on it if you forget what to do, and even then it's still a challenge. Great dungeon.

My favorite part of the game are the 2D segments. Having the jump feather and the 2D segments add some unique freshness and dimension to the game that LttP didn't have, and if there was a 2D sequel to LttP, it would have to have these included.

Yeah, and that's a flaw in the later entries of the series. For all of their likable qualities, they could have dumbed things down less, and the games would have been better off for it.

At the very least, the games don't need to tell you exactly where to go, and mark every bombable wall.
Super Metroid doesn't do that, at least until you get the scanner.

>> No.9705838

>>9705780
That's not difficulty, that maneuvering your ships 3x3 pixel sized hit box through uninspired swirling bullet patterns which come out of generic ships with no real obvious location of where they are emitted from. I'd rather try to 1cc a metal slug game. To me it's the difference between twisted metal 2 and Vigilante 8. I love both games, but the weapons just shoot out from the front of your car with no vehicle animation. In V8 every weapon is shown deployed from a location on a vehicle, adds 25 points to quality imo. Touhou is autist weeb trash, learn an instrument instead.

In my opinion, the Oracles games are. I think they have the best dungeons and the most fun mechanics, the way jumping with Roc's Wing alone factors into not just puzzle solving and maneuvering obstacles, but how you can factor it into combat, that is something I very much LOVE. I basically don't use the shield in these games, I move and jump instead.

I really fucking like Awakening though, it's a cherished classic to me, and yet more that the Oracle games are based on it. I played those two games just for the hell of it. I was just recovering from surgery with nothing else to do, and I liked the idea of even more Awakening, but they surpassed all my expectations, I found something built on a old favorite which was better than it.
It's almost like getting into Final Doom for the hell of it and finding out it's even better than the Doom 2 it's based on (if 35% of Final Doom wasn't a half-baked mess).

>>9705670
I like its gameplay, but it's not quite as fun when you've played the game to death so that it's not challenging anymore and you already know everything. It can be fun to revisit, but there's no Oracles equivalent to it, something which is closely patterned after it yet adds more to the formula while providing an all new worldmap and dungeons.
There's that 3DS game, but it's almost a quasi-remake (I know it's technically a sequel, but it so deliberately rethreads ALTTP) The dungeons are also very, very easy in that, I want to say that playing on hard mode is mandatory, but that only increases your taken damage. Not that the 2D Zeldas even have very tough dungeons, but the 3DS game was definitely easier than the others.

I suppose there's romhacks for making a spiffed up and new world for playing ALTTP.

Are you even reading the posts you're responding to? That's literally his criticism of the game, he called LttP flawed and then clarified that telling you exactly where to go and marking every bombable wall are some of those flaws. Then you come at him as if he's defending LttP as being flawless or something.

Might want to check it out, if you want a more interesting game. Items, entrances, rooms, enemies, and bosses can be randomized, depending on what settings you choose on the randomizer website, so you won’t be playing ALttP the same way, every time you create a new randomized rom.
It’s great if you don’t mind checking every chest (or pot in some seeds) in the game.
