If you're simply asking if the Saturn has good game the answer is YES but many of them were released on other consoles sometimes with better results.

>> No.9624538

i picked one up last year. I can see how people would become console fanboys back in the day. i grew up with an N64, but having a JP saturn controller in hand - it's a charming evolution of 16bit era controllers. feels good. dpad is great. i have a WAD of puyo puyo 2 for genesis that I play on my Wii, but now I have Puyo Sun on saturn, I prefer to play on it even though Puyo 2 is a better game. This system has imprinted on me like a baby duckling. like others have said, the pick up and play type games are aplenty on this thing, lacks the library of PS, lacks the 1st party N64 games, but it's vibey. I like mine. I have street fighter zero 2, puyo puyo sun, outrun and xmen vs SF.

It's worth it to play Dragon Force alone, but there are plenty of other games to try out. If the library is completely new to you and you were alive in the ps1 era, you will enjoy it.

>> No.9624759

>>9624302
There might be an easier way these days, but all you need is a pro action replay cart. You have to do the disc swap trick once to flash psuedosaturn. Way easier than installing the modchip in say a ps1, anyone could do it. I enjoy the saturn, just don't go in expecting the library to reach the heights of the ps1 or n64.

Meh. It's basically the PC Engine of the 6th gen. There are 1 or 2 must play titles in English, but the vast majority of playable games on the system never left Japan. I would personally just emulate and buy a $30 retrobit official controller, as you'll mostly be playing the few fan translations that exist anyways. There's about 10 games total that are even worth the download, and that might bump up to 15 or 20 if some of the more obscure nihongo animu games get translations in the future I'm looking at you, Linda3, Princess Crown, Langrisser V, Bakuretsu Hunters, and Nadesico When it comes to cross platform titles there's about a 75% chance the Saturn version is superior, but not so much so that it warrants collecting plastic

I got mine with Rhea ODE installed off of PowerUp Gaming and am loving having every Saturn game ever made at my fingertips. To me, it was worth the monotony of setting up.

Even better is the Satiator, if you can grab one of those. Unfortunately for me, it didn't exist yet when I got my Rhea Saturn. Literally just plugs in to the back slot where the save memory battery is and reads the ISOs off a SD card

Saturn is the one console that nobody will fault you for pirating the games. No real reason to spend a cent on the games.

It's not a 1:1 but it's the closest comparison that can be made in the console world. I've been going through the PCE library and there are like 5 games that are really worth playing and are also in English or translated, but they're DAMN good games. Many more on both consoles that are jp only that I'd like to try with an English patch

Make a list of at least 10 games you would want to play. If you can do that off the top of your head then it’s a good idea. If you struggle then do more research.
Come to terms with the overpriced games and consider an alternative.
ODEs are expensive but a much cheaper option than collecting games for it. CD burning is fine too, but you’ll need a modded Kai cart. Fenrir and Satiator are both good options.
