Best way to play games for free on this bad boy? I know you can just burn discs, but you gotta manually fuck around a bit every single time to bypass piracy protection. Then there are like 10 different companies competing with SD card readers. Then there's an expansion pack that jumps over the copy protection on discs, eliminating the fuck around swap trick. What is the practical man's piracy method on this system?

Wow nice post time.
Chip it, or use a bypass cart if you're not up for soldering.

Putting the cash down for a Satiator and using the Rings menu os is the easiest route, the amount of games using MPEG video is far, FAR outnumbered by normal games and using this ode means no soldering, burning CDs or sacrificing an AR cart.

>or sacrificing an AR cart.
It actually saved mine. I bought it mainly for the save feature, and mine got wiped out after like 4 years or so. Lost a lot of game saves, and refused to work again.
When I learned about pseudosaturn i flashed it and it gave it a new purpose as a cart for the piracy and also extra 4mb ram which the AR cart already has.
I then got an original Sega Saturn memory cart to store my saves every now and then while saving on the Saturn internal memory.

My original sega memory card died before my AR. My AR is still working.

I plan on doing the FRAM mod so I can keep saves forever and not worry about the battery. Don't really mind soldering at all. I guess the satiator sounds pretty cool. I like that you could keep the disc drive

satiator and fenrir stinks. get a mode

What's up with the mode that makes it so great

It's not "piracy" if it's for an old console, it's "preservation" and "fuck you, scalpers."

I just got one recently. Action Replay + Pseudo Saturn and it's perfectly running every single CD-R I burn. I got lucky since I found my old disk drive and some CD-Rs around, but it's still cheaper to buy those than it is to buy Fenrir or whatever.

the satiator is extremely expensive, has compatibility issues, and just don't work on some machines.

OP, get a modchip, if it comes with a cable attached you won't even need to solder anything.

>>9524621
>but you gotta manually fuck around a bit every single time to bypass piracy protection.
There's an app that can do it in 2 clicks, just point it to the right cue sheet and select the region you want to use, and click patch.

>> No.9525068

I use a modchip, but I've also been using it since before ODEs and pseudosaturn were a thing. So I'm not sure if it's still the 'best' option. But if you go that route, you'll still want to get a 4-in-1 AR cart for all the other features.

modchip is incredibly easy to install. It's just a small board that goes in-between the connection to the disc drive. The only thing you need to solder is a 5v cable to the power rail. And even that you can even get away with not actually soldering it, and just twisting it tightly around the rail. That's what I did as a "temporary measure" when I was in college and told myself I'd properly solder it in when I got home. That was over a decade ago and I haven't bothered reopening the system because it Just Werks.

I don't think I've used any of the features of the 4-in-1 AR cart in the past decade. All I do is use a memory cart for saving.

Some games require a RAM cartridge to run. You probably made use of the extra RAM feature, just never noticed it.

You don't play any japanese games? Or any games that require the additional 1mb/4mb ram carts?

Sounds like to me you might as well just use an emulator. At least the Saturn has had a lot of progress as far as emulation goes in the last 5 years.

don't do it dude, you're gonna be disappointed. i know you been watching those jewtube videos and getting horny for buying one but i'm telling you, it's gonna be boring as fuck when you actually play it. thing has no games. you've been warned.

It is expensive, but it's not extremely expensive. All of the compatibility issues have been patched out already.

Gr already got me one for Christmas so I'm going to play vidya for free on it one way or another. I have a stack of cd-rs from fuck knows when so I'll probably just start there and see if I have enough fun to justify other options. I do think the price of these mods are out of hand. An everdrive for any other console will literally come to life and suck on your cock for the price of the satiator and friends

/thread. I'm sad about the Dreamcast too but get the fuck over it

>> No.9527245

for a cheap in, an AR cart flashed with pseudosaturn is good for burned games. the advantages of a modchip over a cart are negligible.
if your laser wears out get an ODE that replaces the disc drive. satiator isn't worth the premium.

That's fine by me. If you're right, that just means I don't have to burn a bunch of discs or eventually purchase a pricey SD loader mod lol. We'll see how it shakes out
