with drive and tape emulation, you are experiencing the exact same loading times with an emulator. with or without an emulator, fastload carts exist and have existed for over 35 years.

my advice is to get a lot from craigslist or ebay marketplace, it's pretty much the only price effective way to get into C64 collecting these days. I got all this a few years ago for $200, cleaned up nicely.
