Because it came out later in the system's life. Not to mention, GE was selling like hotcakes years after its release.

Probably overshadowed on the N64 by GoldenEye's popularity, and as for the Playstation, its version was dogshit, so those users either jumped ship on playing games based on the film franchise for that generation or hopped over to GoldenEye.
The soundtrack is lacking, the mission roster is smaller, and there's no cheats. If they had pressed a little harder, this game would be golden.
It can be noted that the cartridge ROM sizes are
>GoldenEye: 96 Megabit
>TWiNE: 256 Megabit
>Perfect Dark: 256 Megabit
>Conker's Sad Fur Fag: 512 Megabit
I'm actually surprised that Eurocom didn't try to develop the game using a 64 MiB ROM considering the game was being made around the last peak in the franchise.
On the bright side, having come out later, the game's features shine through and are refreshing for an fps experience based on the Bond franchise.

Eurocom were a reasonably decent licensed game developer that Rare regarded with fondness. Eurocom were responsible for quite a few good games, including the Harry Potter games people liked, and Duke Nukem Zero Hour. They did good work under challenging conditions. They didn't have the luxuries Rare did. Rare's games could be delayed. Eurocom had to ship, and they had to ship fast because of publisher pressures. Also, Eurocom put up with endless bullshit from rightsholders that Rare were bizarrely immune to when GE was made. For example, aside from forcing them to change the music, they were also told that "Good can't fight good" in multiplayer.

For some reason it takes like a second to Bond to pull out and fire his gun, the levels are filled with trial and error gameplay, there are absoultely no mid level saves and the stealth missions where you fail the second you are spotted were AIDS, James Bond for Gameboy was better than this crap.

That has almost nothing to do with it. Kids like Call of Duty clones. With the exception of Goldeneye, 90s and early 2000s Bonds did not do much for Bond among kids.

Craig and the movies being shit and people only pretending to like them because they are le "serious" and "gritty" Bonds is why Bond collapsed among young people.

Honestly, Bond films started to feel flat towards the end of Dalton. Brosnan's first debut was a quick, brief revitalizer for the franchise, but every film since GoldenEye hasn't resonated as much. Probably because the original charm died off with the old societal norms and trends that made the films so alluring and successful.
It's interesting that GoldenEye, TWiNE, and FRwL are the only older Bond films (that I'm aware of) to be made into games (Goldfinger, too if you count the ROM hack of GoldenEye).
Later Bond games (pre 7th gen of gaming) are more or less mishmash concepts inspired by earlier films that were thrown together to make an individually themed game.
If I had to pick, I'd say GE, TWiNE, and NF are the peak for FPS Bond games.

>A number of levels carry the same tediousness between running up the spiral ramp in GE's Caverns level and the backtracking in the Surface levels.
>Textures on character models' faces are poorly done - the developers understandably wanted to self insert, but it appears they didn't spend much time making it blend with the base models.
The bad
>The sample quality for gun sounds aren't fitting for most of the weapons. The worst being the mp40 with it sounding like a stuttering washing machine during the wash cycle on "fast".
>Airport is the laziest level design ever conceived. Looks like a generic, beginner's shitty export of a Worldcraft map file.
>Soundtrack gets annoying after a while. The ones that use vocal samples from the sound bank just paint the inside of a toilet.
>First playthrough, it's easy to get stuck on some levels because it isn't entirely clear on how to proceed.
>Building on the previous point, there's a few instances where you can get softlocked whether it be getting stuck in level/character geometry or a room that requires a key to open the door, but the guard holding it died in a place out of reach and you didn't notice/know about the key.
The good
>Complete overhaul. Uses GoldenEye to serve as a base for a whole new game.
>The AK-47 actually looks like an AK-47 this time.
>Actually shows off what SubDrag's (et al) work with the GoldenEye Setup Editor is capable of.

The n64 version has arguably more complex levels and a bit more interaction, in-engine scripted sequences, but the graphics have lower technical fidelity and don't look as pretty as the PS1 version.

I haven't played this game for years until recently, and since those old times I still have this banger in my head.

> 00 Agent
This difficulty is retarded considering
>lead sponge
>you die, kicks you back to mission select and makes you go back a cursor every time so you HAVE to load the opening cutscenes again
>sluggish menu
GoldenEye was actually nervewracking knowing you're dead in 10 hits or less.
TWINE relies on shoving you through clouds upon clouds or gnats until you're pissed off.
Fuck that shit.

And people keep defending the EA of old when the company was rotten since the beginning.

When the fuck did the reboot come out on the Switch? Better question is how the fuck did it come out if the rights to the Bond franchise are with the Hitman guys and they are notorious for allowing shit to be rereleased.

I like the realistic setting, art style and graphics - shame the animation was so cheap and the physics poor so that it takes two steps back from goldeneye. It's like sure the guard's model is higher poly but when you shoot over his shoulder it hits his giant rectangle hitbox and he teleports 2ft to the side and plays his one death animation.

EA published game. EA liked having "special" cartridges. That's why they bullied SEGA into letting them release Mega Drive cartridges with the yellow tab.

timesplitters is like the generic brand to the name brand goldeneye and PD

The leaked prototype build of the game is kind of wild. It has way better looking menus, RAGDOLLS, and more.

Because Rare took too damn long, and GE64 released the same year as the film TND.
Not to mention, the PS game sucked shit.

desu I wonder how much the specific movies actually mattered, did kids really care that it matched up with a specific bond film? agent under fire(that didn't suck) maybe with pierce brossman's likeness would have been the right idea.

desu the specific movies didn't really matter, and following them was probably detrimental to the delivery of the story in a videogame, just Brossman's license on the cover would be enough. nightfire and everything or nothing were the right approach.

Does someone actually own the rights to that chromatic bassline (the "spy" riff)? The Goldeneye soundtrack is mostly all original with the common element between all the tracks being that bassline and chord progression right? Why didnt TWINE guy just claim his soundtrack was inspired by Lucifer Sam or something?
