8959636 No.8959636 [Reply] [Original]

And this is where I’m filtered. I really want to complete this game as it’s possibly my favorite NES title but I just can’t get past this boss. Am I retarded or is it pretty common to have trouble with this guy?

>> No.8959645

>>8959636
Also want to add that it doesn’t help that the long path with the multiple knights and infinite floating heads makes it even harder since it’s difficult for me to even get to the boss without missing half of my fucking health.

>> No.8959656

It's easily the hardest part of the entire game. While it's extremely rewarding to not cheese it, I don't think there is anything wrong with spamming holy water here

>> No.8959685

If you get the holy water at the very beginning of the stage and keep it all the way to the boss, you can just stunlock him when he spawns. I have never beaten this boss "legit," and I never will.

>> No.8959731

>>8959636
It may seem cheap to some to use the holy water spam to keep him locked down, but it only spawns once at the start of the entire stage, and a real Belmont would do whatever it takes to defeat Dracula and his army of darkness.

>> No.8959752

>>8959636
If you carry the holy water from earlier in the level you can get him in a stun lock and kill him very easily. But it does take practice to carry the holy water all the way to him.

I've never actually cheesed this fight with Holy Water. I never get the stunlock down somehow. Beating him with triple crosses is fucking badass though. Crosses zipping back and fourth across the screen, hitting him and knocking out scythes.

>> No.8959773

You have to use the platforms to dodge his gay flying scythes and then jump towards him and nip him with the edge of your whip. Or use holy water if you're a pussy.

>> No.8959786

>>8959636
he's a pain if you fight him normally but if you keep the holy water from the start of the level, and be sure to get the modifiers by throwing holy water at candles, you can jump and throw it as soon as he appears and keep doing that and he will not hit you and die really quickly
if you don't wanna do that, use the cross or axe and be sure to get the modifiers before the fight, and don't get cornered by the scythes, they're still in the fight after he's dead until you get rid of em
also there's food right before the hallway of doom but you probably know that

I didn't even know you could do it, so I always just used boomerangs (as we named them at the time) like I did everywhere else. It worked fine, sometimes. And you only need it to work once.

I think most people say this part is harder than Dracula. I think Dracula was harder for me but I might just be bad.

I've never been able to hold on to the holy water all level, but the cross works pretty well if you get the upgrades. There might be some element of chance re: where the scythes spawn so I think if you're not an expert part of it is just getting lucky.

if you don't whip the food block, you can jump on it to the block to the left, and get them stuck there, but i'm not sure what causes that since it doesn't always
but either way don't break that block because otherwise you can't jump out of trouble
also probably keep the cross but they're not that hard, so the whip works fine enough even if you lose it

It's hard as balls to do the fight "legit".

Instead mofos just spam holy water on ledges and trap him to kill him.

>> No.8960227

The tactic I do is to FIRST grab the candle that spawns the Cross in the two-floored room below that hallway before his fight (the room with the skeleton pillars), and use that to destroy all the other candles in the room before I move on.

Then I try to time my crosses with the knights' axes while I wail on them, sometime catching incoming medusas with it. You want to keep moving forward and don't feel overwhelmed by the heads. By the way, your standing whip attack will destroy both heights the axe can be thrown at.

By the time you get to Death you should have a level 3 cross and can start wailing on him.

I did this a few days ago.
The whole section is a nightmare if you don't have Holy water because crosses bounce on the knight's shields.
The only hope is killing enough stuff with the cross to get upgrade 2/3, and even then death is not ever an easy fight.
The hardest point of the game for me is the broken bridge just after death. Those fukking big bats just kept pushing me off the platforms.
Also, a tip vs Dracula. Just remember that when you change screen all candles respawn. Abuse that.

When you use the subweapon, at one point you will find an item that's a II (roman numeral 2), you probably saw it and had no idea what it was for, then there also III. It means you can use your sub-weapons two and three consecutive times respectively. The last Castlevania to have the numeral ranks was IV, I believe.

you can get the holy water at the start of the level and upgrade it, then when the fight starts stand on the block and keep throwing it at him, it'll stunlock him and the fleaman for the whole fight
if you don't wanna do that, just hit frank and dodge the fireballs
you can duck and whip him on the block and if you're hit by a fireball the first time, walk into frank during your iframes and keep whippin him
if you die, don't worry about the subweapons since the knife is shit

i just use the whip on him at the right time and as for the second fight 13 or so holy waters are enough, maybe get 25 and a double shot if you're worried it won't be
be sure to hit it in the face with your whip though and ducking next to it when cornered seems to trigger a high jump most of the time

The fucky thing is that if you die here, you lose all your powerups and aren't getting them back by time you beat the segment where you restart to get to him, so you're at an even greater disadvantage for the rest of your continues. Unless I don't know some tricks?

>> No.8964625

>>8959636
You can beat this level without dying fairly easily. At the beginning of the level get the Holy Water and make sure you don't lose it. You can kill the knights by jumping forward and throwing a Holy Water at them (if you don't jump forward they'll be able to back up out of its range). This will easily clear the hallway with the Medusa heads. As for death, he'll initially spawn on the right of the screen on top of that platform. Stand on the end of the middle platform and jump up and throw a Holy Water on the right platform right before Death spawns in. Then just jump up every second or two and throw another Holy Water at him. This will stunlock him and stop the scythes from spawning as well. It makes him a piece of cake.

I gave up on Dracula though. The fact that when he disappears, he then spawns on top of you over and over is complete bullshit.

>> No.8964639

>>8960081
Get Holy Water at the beginning of the stage, then stand on one of the platforms and throw Holy Water at them over and over. Either that or get on the lowest platform on the left, crouch, and just whip them over and over. Don't get down on the floor where they're walking around.

>> No.8964664

>The hardest point of the game for me is the broken bridge just after death. Those fukking big bats just kept pushing me off the platforms.
Don't fight and find a way to run past them. For the ones under the platforms, if you have Holy Water you can throw it on the platform and when they try to fly up they'll run into it and get stunned.
