Only if you don't use the allies.

My favourite type of sequel are those that
take for granted youve been playing the
first game for a long time and so the challenge
reflects that.

Examples:

Hotline Miami 2
Mario 2 (J)
Tomb Raider 3
Castlevania 3

Its the best way to do a sequel but obviously it puts new players off.

My only complaint about difficulty is how it doesn't start you at the stairs leading to Dracula if you run out of continues. The first one did it why couldn't the third one?

Indeed, but you could've put more effort into your thread.

I'm pretty sure it did in the Japanese version and that they changed it for the American release.
Wish they didn't replace the cross in that final area with the axe, it's too easy to spam Dracula's final form out with the latter whereas the cross encouraged you to get on those floating platforms.

Castlevania II would have been the best, if the dialog was clear, on how to progress. III was alright, definitely a great game, but doesn't live up to the original even with the advancement of paths and characters. Something is just a a little off for me.

I > III > II

If we're talking about II with a good rom dialogue patch

II > I > III

Finishing this game for the first time was the absolute best gaming experience of my life. I 100% agree with you, OP.

I think that's what set Dracula's Curse on top of the rest until the series lost its original sparkle and moved to full blown metroidvanias, the replayability was insane for the time and yeah, making the solo run through the longest way was what made you feel above the rest.

>>8790080

I'm kinda partial to the other first one (pic)

>Castlevania II would have been the best, if the dialog was clear, on how to progress.

That's just bollocks, we didn't need the dialog at all, we would spend hours upon hours upon hours searching every nook and cradle, trying every item in every corner until BAM!! A secret was revelead and we could move forward.

You just can't get gaming experienes like that anymore.

Castlevania 2 is bad on a fundamental level regardless of the dialog. Dull level design, nonthreatening enemies, useless weapons, pathetic bosses. The ideas were good but the execution a total failure.

nah castlevania HD was the best of all the games.

most classicvanias are good so this isn't saying much. the second path still fucking sucks with the falling bricks bit.

>>8789749
retard alert. us and eu versions have a more fun to use grant and new enemies in hard mode so they're already 10 times better.

>>8789902
jap version put you at the start if you continued, placed you on the stairs if you lost a life. you miss out on certain items if you start at stairs as opposed to where you start at in the us ver and the section itself isn't particularly difficult, and there's meat in the wall under the spider if you get hurt. you're only 2 screens away from the fucking dracula fight with 1 fighting section and 1 platforming section with bats that are easy to avoid. if you're getting hurt that much before the fight it's a user issue, not a game issue.
