I enjoyed it anyway

Music and design makes it fun even if you do need to learn it to "get good"

Remake of this would be awesome

One of the more baffling aspects of early TMNT products like this game and the first movie is that they seemed to be more influenced by the original comics rather than the much more popular kid friendly cartoon. It’s really strange that the first NES game used this artwork for the box art.

>Okay, you can be the Queen of Diamonds. Now, we take this Jack, which is Jason and shuffle him into these piles which represent cabins. The goal of the game is to find out which cabin Jason is in!
Basing the game concept on the card game from part 6 was a cool idea.

The first TMNT is pretty much Zelda 1 + Zelda 2 in one game.
Why hasn’t anyone ever tried it again?

Everything is pretty good about this game but it was fucked by bad level design. Seriously it controls well and beating the shit out of stuff feels satisfying but the levels were a fucking mess. I'm not even talking about the difficult levels, the easier levels were just bad and clunky too.

Putting a DKC game in kong canada was a great idea and there are a lot of cool level concepts, just a shame the level design is so mediocere and annoying

If you think TMNT on NES is bad, try it on Spectrum. You'll appreciate the NES game a whole lot more.

is there a rom of that?

>>8762253
it does, you have the whole system of overworld + sidescrolling levels you can enter from both sides and which scroll from both sides; with, with some levels being optional and others being a multipath. Progression is based on getting weapon upgrades along the way.

some of the attacks and moves are also incredibly similar, from the way the katana slashes behave, to the rolling jump, throwing shurikens (did the turtles EVER throw a shuriken in the source material?), but also enemies behaviour.
There are also tons of sounds re-used from Getsu Fuma Den

Is there any TMNT North American boxart that's based on the 87 cartoon? It was either Mirage illustrations/illustrators lying around doing nothing, or that edgy Konami artist that also did CV4, Contra 3 etc

When the character jumps, he is pushed upward for a certain time and hitting a wall doesn't cancel velocity - as soon as there's no more ceiling above the character's head, he starts going up again. This is present in both games. Capcom reused their engine over and over again in the NES era, I don't see what would put Konami above building a game on top of a previous release.

How was this bad execution?
Pretty sure you just suck at the game.
Unless of course you're talking the C64 version. Because that legit was poorly executed by featuring an unpassable jump.

>How was this bad execution?

Not him but I can think of a few things
>screen scrolls when you're the 3/4th into the screen
>when entering a screen enemies spawn points depend on the scrolling, meaning their position varies depending on how far the screen scrolled when you went up/down the ladder
>some unavoidable dmg with enemies that spawn in your face when entering a screen (sometimes regardless of scrolling)

wasn't your fault. every version of it released on whatever platform was broken, bugged or just fucked up. it was a very rushed title on all platforms for some reason. nes version was the best, despite being bugged and insanely difficult for no apparent reason.
