Wario was cool as fuck in the 90s when he hit mainstream success. Way cheekier than goody two shoes Mario, and in a way, Nintendo's answer to Sonic which honestly, worked. I know a couple people who never had a Nintendo console who still thought Wario was cool, because everybody had a fucking GameBoy and his games were good and adventurous.

I love his nemesis is a hot babe, very fitting for someone so gruff, macho and ugly. Really liked they brought her back in Shake It and have her trick him in the end, shame he'll never get to settle their long-standing score.

I actually think the only kind moment Wario ever gets is when he shares a laugh wth Shokora at the end of 4. To this day, that is the only time Wario has ever cared about anything that wasn't money or treasure, and I think that gives it even more weight, it's a wonderful little moment to crown that game.

Most of Wario's kind moments (where he exepcts little in return) are in WarioWare. Despite being a jerk, there are many subtle moments that show that he's actually a chill dude at times.

Wario's WL intentional kind moments (where he exepcts little in return) are when he decides to stop giving chase to Pirates who stole his treasure to rescue Hen in WL2, and allowing Cat Shokora to ride on his head while they both escape together.

I guess thinking on it now, it's been a long time since I played Master of Disguise, but give credit where credit is due, while he's totally in for the treasure throughout the game to the point that he goes back to get more after beating the final boss, Wario learns to be a bit more polite and think things through beyond brute strength, if I remember things right, anyway.

If the design philosophy is to have every character play exactly the same, what's the point in having Peach, Wario or Waluigi? It's a massive waste to have them playable just to be Mario/Luigi reskins. This goes especially for Wario because he built an entire 2D platformer series about how his different approach compared to Mario shaped a vastly different experience, like bullying enemies with his strength, being able to pick up, more exploration, etc. It just seems like a massive regression to have a character playable that you know has different abilities but just can't use them.

That's the primary thing. 100%'d it in a single sitting the day I got it when I was 12. Also, the moveset is too basic and repetitive. All the enemies of each stage are just reskins of the previous stage. The level design is kinda ass. The puzzles where you collect the treasure are too simple.

That was due in part to the tiny discs, because Nintendo was paranoid about "muh piracy". Gamecube discs can only hold 1.46 GB of data, where as PS2 discs can hold 4.7-GB. By comparison, Nintendo Switch cartridges can hold up to 32 GB, where as PS5 discs can hold up to 100 GB.
