Of all the consoles i played while growing up, the N64 is the one I keep coming back to the most, the games on it are really replayable and I like that a lot.
Have you played any N64 lately? I've been playing some Excitebike 64.

>> No.8690481

N64 games were £60-£70 RRP back in the day. Which adjusted for inflation is £130-140

Fucking insane. It's no wonder companies jumped shipped and sales were so poor. And why everyone only had the bonified certified top games.

>> No.8690529

>>8690481
Certain games were usually cheaper depending on things like if the game saved to a memory pack and game size. I don't really know of a single N64 owner that doesn't own some sort of budget title.

I rented a lot of N64 games back then, it was probably the cheapest way to play N64 back then outside of going to a thrift shop looking for used games (and honestly, used n64 games used to be real cheap).

I originally got the PS1, didn't get an N64 until the Gamecube just came out
Gamestop was having a big sale online where you could buy a huge collection of N64 stuff for cheap
I got new (I think) pikachu N64 in box and used games were like $10-$20 each
Giant box came to my house filled with the system and a bunch of classic games for around $200

Actually the N64's lack of a dedicated sound chip is why some games had bad audio. It could sound just as good if not better than the PSX/SAT when used properly.

Adjusted for inflation from 1998 £50 is £93.62

https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculator

They were £50 or sometimes £60 Irish pounds, so couldn't have been too much more expensive there. I think maybe when it was released originally first, like the first six months to year, it might have been more expensive.

They were £50 or sometimes £60 Irish pounds, and that would have been less in British Sterling. Though I think the first six to twelve months after it was released it may have been super expensive and for that brief period had been your prices.

there is, because when its emulated the sound comes directly from the console but on real hardware it comes from the va cable, its like the md, when u emulate the md the sound is sharp and stuf but on real hardware its more smooth. obviously it also has to do with the speakers but u get it.
but since the ps1 and saturn have cds, they dont really have that issue

That's a result of the low quality DAC used on the Genesis. The N64 audio difference is negligible in comparison.

Replicating the n64 controller with DualShock or Xbox controller for emulation never feels right - what’s the closest you can get when playing on a pc right now? Is the Bluetooth official n64 controller for switch the best - there was a retro bit but it’s since discontinued I think. Part of the fun emulating is totally lost when controllers don’t seem to feel right

>> No.8691373

There's always adapters, and I heard the switch N64 controller is very good although you need a subscription to obtain it. They even greased up the stick so it doesn't wear down, which is something you can do to your OEM controllers to extend their lives.

R2/L2= Z button
2nd Analog = C-Buttons
Square = B
X= A
with nrage's plugin you can set-up macros so Triangle and Circle can be C-Up and C-Right

For certain games (FPS and the fighting games) I use all the face buttons for C-buttons while A and B are assigned to L1/R1 and finally I map L to the Select button.

You're boasting about fps, playing Quake or Tomb Raider all alone by yourself in your dark room, while the kids downstairs are having a blast playing Goldeneye 4 player death match all together. And after that, they'll move onto Mario Party and maybe top the night off with Super Smash Bros before passing out with their bellies full of pizza and soda. Then they'll wake up in the morning and before their moms come pick them up, knock out another few rounds of Goldeneye all while you're still up in your room, tears running down your eyes whispering to yourself

Love the n64. Recently completed jet force gemini which was one I never was able to complete as a kid. Love the music and world in this game so much. I actually enjoyed going back to explore different paths and save the tribals.

I did use a strategy guide so I could see it being much more frustrating if you didn’t know ahead if time which character could rescue them all or being able to check a count if I missed one somewhere.

Just got an n64 and have been playing through my childhood. The 64 was good times. The multiplayer and sharing secrets and figuring games out with neighborhood kids (meme all you want about the n64, but most kids had many of the same games so you would all be invested in beating and helping others) will be memories I forever cherish.

Considering putting my collection into custom cases since theyre all loose cartridges.
I figure i'd just photoshop the [Not For Resale] rectangle onto the spines for the NFR variants, and the collectors edition rectangle for the LoZ variant color carts.
I dont know what to do for the grey rereleases of colored cartridges though. Just use the same box and have doubles?

That was one of the big things that made me want a Dreamcast. I just really didn't like the controller, its something I can get over now but back then it was a lot of money for me to spend on a console with all new games when my PS1 and N64 collection were getting bigger and bigger with cheap second hand games all over the place.

I got this recently and I really like it. I use it to play on native hardware, the stick has close range to the original while having an improved feel and the rumble feels close to the original but slightly weaker which is IMO a good thing.

If you want something closer to the original controller I would recommend the Switch one as its nearly identical, but keep in mind that means your stick wont last very long since the N64 sticks never did either.

Comes with a PC adapter too.

I got one of these too. Bought it more for emulation on PC and maybe playing games on the Switch, and I also want to see how it fares as a fighting game controller. It's not bad at all, though I'll probably stick to my stock controller for playing on the actual console.

Playing a good N64 game with an analog stick in 10/10 condition is a magical experience no other console can ever equal. You won't find a 10/10 stick though, and even if you do, it'll wear out eventually no matter how much you try to prevent it. So I guess you're right. The N64 actually is shitty.

How much should I sell my N64 for?
I've got the box, cables, and a blue controller but not the grey one. They stick completely sucks as expected of N64 controllers. Box is in good condition.
I also have the empty box for the blue controller.
I was thinking of selling the 64 as a set with the controller and then trying to sell the empty controller box separately? IDK.
I'm not sure what happened to the grey controller. I think I threw it away a long time ago.

The boxes are probably the most valuable thing you have right now, and yes people would pay for the empty box of the gray controller.
I think you can sell the console in box + blue controller for a good price, you have the manuals and inserts right?

That definitely would have been appreciated back in the N64 era before emulation was as viable as it is today. I played so much Donkey Kong arcade in DK64. Would have absolutely shit myself if say Kirby 64 contained Kirby's Adventure, or Mario Party contained SMB, or if they had even come out with a proper retro compilation cartridge.

I'm using Mupen64 with Retroarch, is it possible to map the left C button and the B button differently or do you just have to put up with it?
