How the hell does the wikia site cit this as the Famicom design but leave out the X68000 boxart? That's a near-flawless recreation of what NES/MSX boxart Simon looked like from the front.

He looks somewhat more era-appropriate in the sequel. Funny thing is, since Simon's Quest never had a reimagining, this is canonically his most recent look, chronologically. Kind of strange to think about.

So much for the guy who insists that Dracula's 2nd form isn't Dracula because he read an interview of someone who recalls a discussion he had with someone else some decade ago

This is the best design. He looks like Conan or a generic action movie star, like someone who could enter that castle and kill monsters for days. However, this is my favorite:

The Chronicles design by itself isn't bad, but what's terrible is the in-game sprite edit. The browns work so much better in this game than that black/red. Also they ruined the shading on the clothes and the hint of eyes from the original X68000 sprite. It's almost as bad as bucket-tool Richter from Saturn Symphony. Almost.

The wiki, like most FANDOM sites, has its issues. One of the high-ups pestered IGA on Facebook for the timeline, which is one thing but I think he had already left Konami at that point and he kept trying to say that the rightsholders might have other ideas. More recently, some iffily-translated fax from Konami to EGM got treated as proverbial gospel, even though it has tons of translation issues and abandoned plot threads/ideas, and had it supplant some officially released/final info. I imagine giving it its own article as a curiosity of Bloodlines' development, but it was clearly internal info that was leaked and never meant to see the light of day. And for some asinine reason, they've had the Hunchbacks and Fleamen split since forever, even though they're the exact same thing (the 1993 Famicom rerelease of Akumajo Dracula even renames them as such). I'm surprised there was never a fork that cleaned things up.

Shimon Belmondo, I think you mean.

I always thought he was a Scottish dude or something because they always referred to Belmont as a clan back then which kind of explained their pseudo barbarian look. These days it's always referred to as a family rather than clan though so it was probably a weird localization thing.

I imagine that's why they ARE Scottish in the Lords of Shadow canon while I think it's never really stated in the mainline where they're from other than they regularly show up in Transylvania when needed.

I think the consensus is that Belmondo is correct, though it could very easily just be either, because they're both real names, and Belmont would be written as Belmondo in Japanese either way.

I was under the impression that Belmondo was actually Belmonte... A pretty common Spanish surname.

For example, here's Belmonte Castle, a Spanish castle from medieval times

The Japanese versions used all three spellings (Belmondo, Belmont and Belmondo) at different points until they finally settled on Belmondo around the second GBA game.
