The Famicom has attached controllers and all you need for NES carts is a 72 to 60 pin converter, but you'd probably prefer an Everdrive anyway. And you can play games that use cart expansion audio without modifying anything.

I might be wrong because I do not own a NES or Famicom yet, but I know that there is a cartridge related issue where you have to boil a part to make it work. That said I could be wrong so please don't boil your stuff without plenty of research first.
>>8581909
Not to mention the poster always uses that image as well. Why they are bound and determined to espouse emulation is beyond me since I would think most Anons do emulate as well as use real hardware..

>>8581876
Just take out the pin connector and bend the pins back in place and clean them, or boiling the thing works too.
I got lucky when I got my NES a few years back, thing had its pin connector replaced with a 3rd party one and although I was skeptical at first I think I lucked out in the end. I don't need to click it down after I insert a game, and it still works great to this day with very few hiccups. Don't know what kind of magic they used on that pin connector but it's pretty damn great as I've heard the horror stories about those things.

Is there an adapter for NES controllers?
On a side note, does anyone know of a place where I can buy an imitation Famicom controller for use with the NES, just for fun? I got an imitation dogbone controller lately and I'm having fun with it, wanted to get one shaped like the FC's for a while.

For me, it was the blinking purple screen. Disabling the lockout chip helped with that, but there's still the matter of the pins.

Some carts work more easily than others as the PCB thicknesses aren't always consistent. SMB/Duck Hunt/WCM has a really thick PCB so that usually always works. I found Castlevania, Double Dragon, and Kiwi Kraze to have very thin PCBs and it's a real bitch to get those working.

You can make it so with a hardware mod, just a bit of a pain in the ass.

Y'all should just tighten your pin connectors and then never push the cart down again. I did that in 2005 or so and my NES hasn't needed touched since to work just fine.

Get a Famicom AV instead. They can be had for around 100 or so dollars, they can take NES controllers and accessories, and they just work on American TVs versus the original Famicom (it tunes to channel 96 or so). Plus it uses composite instead of RF. Ironically this makes it possibly the cheapest 'best version' of the console, the top loader and front loader go for 100 dollars and they're both strictly inferior.

You can make an adapter with a db15 connector and an nes extension cable, doesn't support all games though for some reason. Can also be made a lot nicer with a neogeo cable.

Wipe and clean your carts out with rubbing alcohol until the oxidation is gone. If its still fucked, try a different cart. If everythings fucked, its because you got the wrong consle dumbass, the 101 toploader with AV output is cheaper/superior.

>>8581908
Yeah, you need a converter. In the olden days some carts had converters hidden underneath the NES cart case. (nintendo cheaped out during the chip shortage and just added a converter to save cash)

Take it out. Blow in it. Then push the cartridge in until it just barely clears enough to be pressed down. Then take another NES cartridge and push it in on top of it to hold it in the down position. Then press power.

If that doesn't work you will have to re-bend the pins.

With that said, while it is easy to find converters to use Famicom pads on NES for sale, the contrary isn't easy, probably because there is no real market for it (why would the Japanese care for that?)

I do have a converter to use NES pads on PC and I use it quite a lot for emulation despite owning an AV Famicom and an everdrive

I haven't heard of the compression trick in a long time. My brother used to jam a block in-between to compress the cartridge slot down. Eventually it was almost impossible to get a clean picture.
Another final solution trick was putting the game in about 1/2-2/3 of the way and not pushing it down at all.
