does anybody here speedrun, watch speedrunning, or have any aptitude for the kind of glitches they exploit?

I forgot to watch AGDQ this year.

mandatory transexuality reference. glad I've gotten that over with.

No because I play games to have fun not to win some kind of metal for showing-off my big gaping mutilation hole energy.

>> No.8569732

I used to, but once they start using glitches to skip 90% of the game, I lose interest.

yes, those 'walk two minutes to place X then do a glitch that gets your to the credits' runs are shit.

you want interesting movement tech, I think a good run length is 30-60 minutes.

No, I'm mentally sane.

>> No.8569750

there's been a couple of games like megaman 2 that i've raced with friends but i don't know any speedrun strats or care about that kind of thing.

i've seen some interesting speedruns but usually once they start glitching through the entire game or something i lose interest. more complex and open games like zelda seem interesting to watch just in that solving the route to take seems like a puzzle in and of itself and is appealing to see how it gets figured out - i really like the majora's mask 2 pause video for this.

I like the gamebreaking stuff. You can headbash through the ground to get to the final boss and beat Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly in under two minutes. Glitches are funny.

>> No.8569753

I used to but honestly the only entertaining part of the whole process is to break games. I don't care much about how fast or world records or any stupid shit like that. I had more interest in seeing how people break boundaries within the mechanics of each game.

Like really, nowadays there are people speedrunning games that still take like 4-5 fucking hours to finish, specially without using any bugs. I don't give a shit about those. It's astoundingly boring.

this.

why do a pokemon run where you go to viridian to get an item and then just glitch up a pokecenter PC until it rolls the end credits for you? dull.

I speedrun a few survival horror games. It’s half of how I enjoy video games now, since it gives end goals and provides plenty of reason to enjoy older games past the intended completion criteria
It’s also a great way to meet people through the game communities and streaming

The only speedruns I follow are those of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.
These were the games that felt natural to try to do everything as fast as possible when I was a kid.
I knew they existed but only got into them thanks to Goose's streams which made them accessible.
Quite fitting that by keeping to himself he awakened the ire of the mentally-ill tranny pederast community who are of the idea that an online space where people spend hundreds of thousands of hours playing the same video game over and over is the best spot to recreate their perverted idea of the French Commune.

A long time ago when speedrunning was first becoming more of a formal thing (rather than this practice contained to relatively few games outside of literal racing games and the like) I was actually moderately excited. The idea of just getting through a game as quickly and skillfully as possible actually is cool to me, in a vacuum. I do legitimately get disappointed when I start seeing anything like wrong warps. In the long run I don't hate mild glitch abuse, I think we've all discovered a little exploit in a game we like, and use it. But it's typically all or nothing. To that end glitchless categories do exist but they're often not as popular and aren't run by the best players. On top of that, "glitchless" only means exactly that, it doesn't mean the runners won't employ other tactics that are dreadful to watch like looking down to help massage framerate.

I also reject the idea that "speedrunners love the games they play more than anyone, that's why they put so much time into it!" that has become popular among enlightened voices these days. Sure, that is a factor for some, I know there are games I've played that I loved so much I wanted to perfect them. But how do you explain shit like speedruns of games that just came out? Plenty of players are just grinding for glory/want to be in a scene/have an obsession, don't try and tell me all of them are just pure passion.

Same zero master and 4shock blast. Amazing

>> No.8570702

It's only amusing for thr glitches and novel techniques, I don't give a single fuck about how fast they actually beat a game. Watching someone skip a source engine game by walking on a birkc they're holding to fly is amusing, so is watching Mario start screaming at 1000mph through a wall.

>> No.8570710

I used to enjoy watching AGDQ. It was nice and homely when it was just a bunch of retards in some hotel basement where they could say whatever they want and get away with it, like Werster saying fucking niggers on stream and no one batting an eye. Stopped being as fun when it moved to the big hall and started getting bigger and bigger, it lost that tightknit, bunch-of-friends-gathered-together feeling. I gradually got less and less interested until I sort of realised the whole thing was kind of gay and a bit sad. The whole ‘everyone on the couch, say “I love MLP” and I’ll donate $20!’ Shit kind of pissed me off. You’re donating to charity, not making strangers look like total buffoons for your amausement. Then they started bringing down the ban hammer and ProtoMagicalGirl started getting a weird amount of power, basically hosting the whole event. When they banned Goose for life, I just gave up and didn’t bother watching any further. Good point to stop too because I hear it’s devolved even further into complete debauchery and walking on eggshells. I miss Yellow Shirt Guy

>Even when games do have that the autist doing it still uses ridiculous exploits which are apparently allowed

Why can't you just play the game? Who actually enjoys watching this?

And what the fuck is even the point of 16 star Mario 64 speedruns when you can do it faster by getting less stars? Both of those use glitches, just some retarded limit on how many glitches you can do? Why not, you know... do it glitchless...?
