I only have money for one, do I buy an Everdrive64 or do I buy an RGB Modded N64? The last time I tried to mod a console it went really, really bad. I can get an RGB modded N64 for about the price of an Everdrive but I'm not sure which would be more beneficial. I was thinking to get the Everdrive and then the RGB N64 the next time I got paid, but I'm not sure.

Think I'll go with the everdrive, apparently it lets you play NTSC games on a pal console at 60hz?

>> No.8566439

>>8566269
That’s not how that works anon
RGB modding won’t magically make it 60hz neither

>>8566269
Definitely go with the Everdrive. I have a RGB modded 64 and honestly I can barely tell the difference between S-video and scart rgb unless I'm playing on my scaler. And yes, even if you have a pal system it will have no issues playing roms of any region at the correct speed.

I’ve done the n64 RGB mod as well, the eTim one. It’s not as dramatic as an improvement as you’d hope for like this anon said. Everdrive is the way to go in this case. Also it’s a relatively difficult mod, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you aren’t very confident.

What you should do is forget the shitty4 and the 5 games worth playing that it has and make the mature decision.

I would just take S-Video from the N64. RGB is not really worth the effort with that console

Just go with the Everdrive
the jump in quality from composite to S-Video is way bigger the jump from S-Video to RGB
Plus the N64 has a crappy global anti aliasing on it, some mods remove it (i know Ultra HDMI does remove it) but it's honestly deliberately there and hides some of the jank
Like for example Ocarina of Time kinda looks like shit without this filter because a lot of the backgrounds are pre rendered and clash horribly when they're not smoothed together

>> No.8566627

Your best bet is to buy a JP modded unit already, the mods are quite advanced.

>>8566621
sadly my CRT doesn't take S-Video it only does RGB Scart, RF and Composite (through composite front panel and scart at the back), which is why I was debating about the RGB Modded n64, but I'll go with the Everdrive because being able to play ntsc games at real speed is more important to me than the video quality desu, 50hz slowdown is really fucking horrible.

Can confirm, deblur is legit, and *optionally* AA off, but you'd need to use a GameShark for that (just be sure to run a ROM of it through Everdrive and not use a real one).
I say optionally because some people can't justify how much dither it produces.

Everdrive supports GameShark codes, and you can drop in patch files and it will perform on the fly patching. You can find a huge collection of the patch files too.

Not sure about N64 but most PAL retro consoles need a dual frequency oscillator mod to make it true 60hz with the correct colour range when playing NTSC games. This was certainly the case with my PS1.

Did Nintendo ever tell anyone that the n64 supports s video? I never knew that it did, and I never saw s video cables that were made for it, just snes ones. Even in the n64s manual it doesn't say it supports s video just rf and composite.

Most American TVs just had component and rf. S Video and composite were always higher end. People on this board act like they were more common than they were. They became much more prevalent on LCD tvs, but the n64 is gonna look worse on that display.

get the chink "ED64 PLUS GAME SAVE DEVICE" unironically beats the shit out of the "recommended" everdrives that cost over $100 and dont even support every game, from what i remember Ed64plus supports every single game, and costs around $50-60
cant imagine spending more than that on a console with only a handful of good games, and an abysmal library total.

There's two types of "deblur". Deblur built-in the RGB mod doesn't do a whole lot in my opinion. It just makes the output signal a tiny bit sharper. Software deblur (i.e. through Gameshark) however makes a much bigger difference because this actually changes the way the image is being rendered.

Based non-researching anons
The N64 took the same cable connector as the SNES, and the SNES (not Jr) supported s-video.
