I'm just confused because while I agree that I'm Gen Z, people on this website can't make up their mind about zoomers, some say people born after 1999 are zoomers, and others say anyone born after 1995 is a zoomer. Then kids who are born in 2005 and clearly not part of the Gen Z will be called zoomers even if they're "Gen Alpha".

That is literally core zoomer.

X: '65-80, so the core is early 70s babies
Y (Millennial): '81-96, so the core is late 80s babies
Z: '97-2012, so the core is mid 2000s babies

You are confused about it because 4chan /vr/ is the king of gatekeeping and most gen z is underage. A 24 year old is just barely Gen Z but 40yo 4channers will spam "ZOOMER! ZOOMER! ZOOMER!" ad nauseam.
Once all of Gen Z is of age the early 2000s babies will actually represent the nucleus of the gen.

Plenty of people still use millennial as an insult. In fact, "zoomer" is only thrown around by bitter millennials who don't want to be associated with 20 year olds. People over 41 or so don't care to differentiate between millennials and gen z, as they shouldn't.

Third-worlder here. It was like this in here too. I can even say I was ahead of the curve (compared to my acquaintances), because I was able to score a Super Nintendo on Christmas of 1993, but many of my games were bootlegs, save a few cartridges with those special chips.

To be frank, I envied a friend who grabbed a Super Nintendo in late 1997. Games were cheaper and, in a few years, he had bought many classics I couldn't before because of price. Later, I kinda went that route with the PS2, and got things with a much better price. No, I lived in small town Appalachia, and while my parents were well off, most of my friends were not. It was actually kind of a big deal to have even an SNES in 1997, because most people only had GameBoys or MAYBE an NES, if they had anything at all. Obviously, having a home computer was an EXTREMELY big deal. Even though my parents had the lowliest, slowest Power Mac 6100/60, handing in school reports comprised of computer type made you a tiny god.

I don’t know where /vr/ got this notion that stores just magically stopped selling Super Nintendos on September 30, 1996. You didn’t have to live in a third world country to be behind the times, even though West Virginia is kind of a third world country in its own way.

Boomers (actual ones) have basically been seething about the perceived slights of millennials since they were born. I guess as a scapegoat for their own shitty ideas and parenting that got forced onto the millennials.
The whole "participation trophy" thing is classic Boomer seethe. Firstly, it was their stupid idea. Secondly, I got those as a kid and even then I knew they were worthless, and they made me feel worse if anything, because they couldn't just let me lose gracefully, they had to present me with my failure in the form of a "prize". If anything turned the millennial generation into pussies, it was the lack of decent father figures, and again, that's their fucking fault.
Anyway, a lot of actual millennials unfortunately, internalised all of this, and turned into self-hating cucks on top of everything else.

We didn't pirate the carts. I don't know where the guy you replied to is from. But the games I got came from china then went to paraguay and then to brazil's selling and rental stores. The cartridges were modeled for the Japanese Super Famicon so we had to remove the block from the USA console version to fit it. The bootleg cartridges worked perfectly. I owned a MK2 game that lasted for years. The bootleg on the pic is a hacked version that allowed for fatalities before ending the round. There were lots pirated jap game versions available to us in the 90's as well

Same thing as >>8492345 told, for I am also brazilian. Gotta agree with him and blame this shit on China, since many of the games were japanese-exclusives (or the japanese version, if there was an international release), with the aforementioned Super Famicom cartridge shells. However, I must add: some games were, indeed, the overseas version, and even though they sported the japanese shell, they fit like the american ones, so no modification on your console was needed for them. Their price was very attractive too, ranging from a tenth to a fifth of an original's. Though it was rare to see a cartridge with save battery, and I've never seen a bootleg of a special chip game.

Christ, I cringe reading that, but it's easy to forget this is where it started. We invented it, when we were all like 15, then normies culturally appropriated it from us. Only they never grew out of it.

This has a lot to do with how the modern internet/social media space is dominated by consumerism, and blatant viral marketing and astroturfing. Everyone lives vicariously in the world of upper-middle class streamers and e-celebs these days, so even if you are poor (and statistically speaking, you are far more likely to be a poorfag than not these days), your mind is kept hooked in to the latest consumer trends.

When looking back into memory, it's easy to forget details like this, because things are quite different today- XBone and PS4 are still for sale, but the companies don't really want you to know that.

Anon, sometimes it was hard. The rental shop owner was stingy, and guess fucking what? The supposedly battery-saving cartridge was also a bootleg. I had to finish Donkey Kong Country 3 in one-sitting because of that. Unfortunately, I couldn't do it at once; I had to take breaks, and, in the end, took me two days. Problem was: mom wasn't letting my Super Nintendo stay on during the night, while I slept. I had to put a piece of electrical tape on the console's LED and turn off the lights, so mother wouldn't figure it out. In the morning, I'd quickly take off the tape, so my trick wouldn't be discovered. I had better luck with Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2.

Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any pussy? I mean, I guess it's fun making fun of people because of your own insecurities, but you all take it to a whole new level. Later I would get a Pentium 120Mhz with 32mb ram and would play the living shit out of Quake for the next decade. There will never be a gaming epoch like the days when you'd have to download mods and configure them yourself. You'd write little scripts and aliases etc, exec them from the console, tune shit to eek out another 15 ms of latency from your dialup modem. I remember the early days I was on 250 ms, then later I got it down to 190 - 200ms and with more tuning and a hardware 56k modem I got it down to 150s. Yes, it was. I lived in a tiny town and most people were assholes, also I've always been the antisocial type. I must have discovered Kazaa in 2001 or so, I remember I was playing Diablo II and some guy told me about some crazy program you could use to get games for free. I knew one person in my local village, the older brother of my good friend of the time, he would pirate me games too, while I pirated games for him and others, since internet was slow and it made more sense to share.
Piracy was definitely easier to get the games you wanted or new games than to buy them, since you couldn't even find everything in store or to find someone who had the game already. I remember trying to track down a few games that didn't have cracks with little success.

>I mean that was the entire point: get a burner for yourself and to save space on your disc, but someone had to pay for it, so why not sell pirated copies to people for still pocket change, but quickly earning the recorder back.
I got my recorder for free, I was in my mid teens, I would have never been able to afford one. Luckily my older brother lived in the US and sent us his old burner after he upgraded his PC, it was a few years old burner at the time but better than nothing.
I am the anon you're replying to and I often did make copies for money or to trade against other things or official games. You get a lot of "friends" suddenly when you're the guy who can get any game, assholes would stop messing with you and those who did would get fucked up by the older people who would buy games from you. Lot more than just money was in it for me at the time which I didn't even plan, these days it sound obvious but back then it was just someone coming up to you and saying they get you a few packs of smokes for a copy of a game, since they heard you made one for your friend.

These days you open Steam, click buy and 50 minutes later you have a 50GB game ready to play, which is far easier than trying to track down a torrent or repack, a VPN, then downloading and installing it, probably jumping thru a hoop or two because crack and pirated copy

That's because the internet has created an unprecedented level of inter-generational social mixing, so zoomers are unwittingly spending a TON of time interacting with millennials and gen Xers. Kids are prone to copying what other people do and say, so when they go online and get called zoomers as an insult by older people on 4chan, reddit, in games, etc, etc they'll pick that up and end up using it against their peers in an attempt to sound cool or grown up. To buy, install and play a game in Steam take literally three clicks if your PayPal or CC is saved. You click on game, you click buy, it downloads/installs itself and then you click play.
Any repack or OG installer will even take more clicks.

Meanwhile you'd have to go to a torrent or repack site, click on magnet link, sure it might auto add to the torrent client and then download, preferably you want to start up a VPN before though, since 90% of western countries you're fucked without, after it's downloaded, you run the installer manually, select location, install and after it's done you can play it.

I don't care how retarded you are, you can't say that 3 clicks isn't less than even 10 clicks or that starting one program up and spending literally 10 seconds to buy and let it do it's own thing isn't quicker than having to manually doing it.

Can't really blame them, I didn't bother learning about BASIC and assembler, etc either when I was young, even though my dad knew it all since he was a teen in the 80's.

Stop taking this site seriously, for one. That's a sign you really are a zoomer

Zoomer on this site is the same buzzword that is "nigger" or "trannie". Cope words used to say "I hate you, so I'll label you". that's it. nothing more. But just because this site is retarded trash, doesn't mean you aren't what you are, just don't twist it thanks to this site's userbase problems.

I think you're kind of missing the point.
The point is that Steam is easier than going to a store, buying a physical copy, installing the game from CD-ROM/DVD, and running it. 22 years ago, shrink-wrap software on CD-ROM (increasingly DVD-ROM) was still the standard way to buy software. There were many cases where pirating a game was easier than doing that.

And yes, Steam (personally I use GOG, fuck DRM) is easier than piracy today, most of the time. You don't have to fuck around with sketchy download sites with terrible download speeds. You don't have to broadcast your IP to a torrent network and hope there are enough seeders for the game you want. You don't have to fuck around wondering whether the version of the game you just downloaded has been hacked or fucked with in some way (not even necessarily malicious hacking).

This is before you even get into zoomers' learned helplessness when it comes to computers. Personally I find 3rd-5th generation emulators by far the most convenient way to play console games from that era, but even then I get why people play HD Steam versions of games like Final Fantasy IX.

To pirate, install and play a game take literally three clicks if you have your browser already opened. You just find the game you want, you click link, it downloads, you install it and play.
Any other form of getting games will take more time, clicks and of course - money.

Meanwile you'd have to go to a Steam site, download their client, then find the right game, sure, you will later have the Steam cliean installed, but it will require regular updates, preferably you also want to have your CC or PayPal data memorised, since having it saved on your PC with net connection is one of the dumbest things possible, after it's downloaded, you can't play it, because you also need a third-party client, for extra safety of the corporate profit. Oh, and hope you calibrated everything with both clients just right, or else your main drive is going to clog up in no time

I do care how retarded you are, for you have no fucking clue what the fuck you are even talking about and try to act smug about being tech-illiterate, wearing it like some sort of badge of honor.
