I did too, that's why I made the thread. And I thought the exact same about the secret levels. My phone buzzed when I got the egg in the Caveman Village and I checked it, thought I'd be going to the Inca Village but glanced at the TV and just caught the end of the congratulations screen. I was expecting a lot of content, when I beat the final boss I had 60% completion and I'd gotten every collectable up to that point except the puzzle piece from Inca Village since it put me straight into the boss fight. I thought there'd be a full Cowboy world with a secret boss and true ending, but nope, nothing.

Honestly Croc selling that much on a system with an abundance of 3D platformers (3 Crash games, 3 Spyro games, 5 Tomb Raider games if you count them, plus a boatload of other literally who mascots like Jersey Devil and Rascal) is a lot more impressive to me than Banjo selling just over half a million more where the only other big platformers are Mario 64 and Rayman 2 (I know PS1 had it too but it's the worst version, although PC, DC and arguably PS2 mog the N64 version). Like what other 3D platformers are there on 64?

Objectively false, it's just pretty genre specific.

Brit devs have always had an affinity for vehicles for some reason. Devs like Psygnosis and Reflections made a lot of the best racing/flight sim games in the PS1-PS2 era, and if you look outside the realms of /vr/, literally the number 1 most successful game of all time (GTA V) is made by Brits.

Also Theme Hospital has perhaps more soul than any other videogame ever.

Can someone make an edit where its the croc game cover, but the r in "croc" has been removed (thus leaving it to read "coc" [kek]) and instead of the little alligator dude, it's just a green penis. "The game initially started development shortly following a successful relationship between Argonaut and Nintendo, with the former creating a processing chip for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System called the Super FX that was used in games such as Star Fox to display 3D polygonal environments. It was first pitched to Nintendo as a prototype for a 3D platform game in which the player controlled Yoshi from Nintendo's Super Mario series, but was ultimately rejected by Nintendo, ending the relationship and prompting Argonaut to retool the game as an original property."

Honestly, Croc 2 was a bit fucked up thinking about some of the missions. Like the first area is fine, save a bird, free 1 Gobbo from a cage, find some treasure in a mine, get a stolen sandwich back and win a boat race, but then onwards
>Put out a forest fire
>Save a bunch of kidnapped babies that are literally being thrown around as toys
>Rescue Gobbos from a pyromaniac that's tied them to bombs
>Stop a train with Gobbos on board that's going to crash on an unfinished track
My favourite however was the "save the Gobbos stuck in the mountain from freezing to death" mission where this freaking song played

>First Croc 1 and 2 are my childhood copies, got both preowned
>Leant Croc 1 to a family member as a kid, he broke the case, lost the cover and scratched the disk so a lot of levels wouldn't load and some music wouldn't play (the title music would play the first 3 seconds and stop for example)
>Years later see the EA Classics copy of 1 at a convention, pick it up on a whim and play through it
>Decide to move onto 2 since I never got any further than Cossack Village as a kid
>Get up to Caveman Village when one of the stages doesn't load at all, no matter what I do
>Somebody is selling a disc only copy on Amazon for £2 so figure it's worth a try since I can just use my existing case and manual
>Get the demo, explain it to the seller and he refunds me and just lets me keep it
>Go on eBay and decide to bite the bullet and just buy a boxed copy
>They're all around £15, however someone is selling a 5 game bundle for £20 that includes Croc 2 so figure why not
>One of the other games is also Croc 1 which is where the third copy of that comes from
>Years later, sister gets me the Japanese version of 2 as a birthday present because she knew I liked Croc as a kid and had recently inherited a Japanese PS1
I'd like to get a Saturn copy of 1 at some point. If I ever see PC copies for sale for cheap I'd probably pick them up for completionists sake

Didn’t Shigeru Miyamoto steal this game’s ideas, artworks, level physics and gameplay mechanics in order to make Mario 64? If I remember well, before Croc was a thing the developers first pitched an idea to Nintendo about making the first 3D Yoshi game and they had rendered Yoshi in 3D, made a few levels. Miyamoto looked at everything and liked the “upbeat and creative atmosphere” they had elaborated, as well as potential gameplay mechanics and 3D worlds… but he told them he had to renounce the offer. Then he took all the beta details of the “scrapped game” in secret, dismissed Yoshi and replaced him by Mario, and used it to create the Mario 64 we all know today. Croc devs got wind of it and there was a legal dispute, but in the end what can you do against Miyamoto or Nintendo… the latter eventually apologized, maintained his idea for the game with Mario in it, and the indie devs got back to developing their game… only they changed the name for “Croc”, went to Sony and changed the majority of elements of the game.

The thing is… in Mario 64, if you talk to the Yoshi at the top of the Castle after collecting 120 stars, the Yoshi is strange. It is deformed, elongated and lacks a white stripe around the red bump on its back, unlike Yoshi’s design in all other iterations of Mario. It is similar to the pitch the Croc developers first made. He talks to you, unlike in all other iterations of the game, then says some weird stuff and just… jumps down below to his “suicide”, never to be seen again. At least that’s what kids in my block said back then lol, you know with kid theories that circulated around cult games.

I now notice it must be some kind of in-joke from the M64 dev’s team. They must have been satisfied with their end result for the first 3D Mario game, and sensing potential success, they make that Yoshi/Croc just kill himself as some sort of dark humour surrounding the beef between Croc’s creators and Miyamoto.
