I may be responsible for inflating the price of One Must Fall 2097...

It happened yesterday when an auction for this game closed at over $666 yesterday. The game was hovering around $200 and I put a maximum bid for $666....

I usually bid snipe auctions like this in the last few seconds thinking there's no way someone will bid this high for a PC game.

Lo and behold, I actually LOST that auction with someone outbidding me...

Guess what happened the very next day...

This happened the very next day...

I have been hunting for a complete-in-box registered version of One Must Fall 2097 for MONTHS. Now I see two within a day of each other. I inflated the market. It was me,

I think ebay sellers are just insane. The prices they list Morrowind collectors editions for is unrealistic. Especially when all you really get is a droopy ordinator.

lol, this sort of thing probably happens a lot more often than people think. It's all imaginary values basically anyway, sellers asking as much as people are willing to pay, with some willing to pay ridiculous amounts which then screws up the whole market.

Makes sense
>something relatively uncommon and rarely for sale on ebay actually shows up for sale on ebay
>two people who want it get in a bid war, making price skyrocket
>other people who have the uncommon thing see this and decide it is time to sell
I have a big box US copy of Chasm: The Rift, which isn't anything that special, but is apparently relatively rare on ebay. Prime material for a bid war between the small handful of people who look for it on ebay, despite the game itself not being popular and a lot of people probably having it (but not bothering to sell because no obvious market price). If somebody tossed one up, had it get bid to a few hundred, I'd bet that within a month you'd see five other copies for sale.

yeah, the same happened with Rule of Rose. I've seen up to a dozen copies on sale at once and they all wanted 300+ bucks for it, and while the game *was* hard to be found before, all of a sudden everyone had it and wanted to sell it

Yes, random idiots like you can actually inflate the value of an obscure game. Now you can see just how easy it is for people to intentionally manipulate the market.

>> No.8445636

>>8444547
Okay, now think about how often this happens on purpose with shill bidders manipulating the pricecharting stats. The whole market is a fucking joke and you're a fool for participating in it.

Rule of Rose is extremely unique because of the circumstances surrounding it (news sites catch word of "limited print pedophilia game", market speculators snatch up every copy before it even releases, and now it's in a cycle where its own reputation keeps jacking the price higher). All of those copies that popped up at once were likely resellers who bought it at 190-ish and decided it was finally time to sell because the price got up to 300.

According to the seller, the box is mislabelled as shareware but the CD has the registered version. It sounds ike bullshit though.

You can only really trust the Romware or FormGen version of One Must Fall 2097 on CD. Unless there's an Aussie here who can confirm.

sniping is the only reasonable way to handle ebay auctions though. Otherwise you give an opportunity for someone else to rechallenge you and up their ante more than they would've otherwise. Not to meniton shitty sellers who might use sockpuppet accounts to put in shill bids and try to love-tap your bid up. Better to just manually put in your bid at the last second.

Shit, I don't even use the Watch feature because the seller and others can see that.

Protip for ebay: if you find a poorly listed item, do not even click on it. Ebay has a little section for "users who viewed this item also viewed," so if you click on a poorly listed item, and then view a better listed, similar item, the poorly listed item has a higher chance of showing up in the "also viewed" group on the better listed item.
