Because basically, Sonic has to go back to the past to fix the mess that has been done there otherwise his present will inevitably head towards an apolocalyptic world. But if he doesn't do, the future will always automatically become dark.

Which basically have for message in real life:
The cannon timeline is that the future is meant for our world to be destroyed, and no matter what we do now, we are doomed and the only way to prevent this is to go back to the past to take out the X factor that will make this future not happening, which it's impossible because no one can go back in time.

Interestingly the "perfect" ending isn't the cannon ending for this game if you look at future games in the series. In generations you fight metal at Stardust Speedway's bad future, and the same metal is fought in Sonic 4 Ep II. My headcanon is that Sonic was able to cause a good future in each zone by breaking the animal capsules and metal projectors, but failed to get all the time zones thus allowing metal sonic to alter little planet's timeline after sonic left.

That's because the Past tracks are 'chip tunes'. They show case the Sega CD's 8-channel PCM audio chip using all sorts of audio samples. The Future and Present tracks were all red-book audio and were replaced for the US version of the game. I don't mind the US soundtrack, despite there being some better ones on the JP soundtrack.

The Windows 95 PC port really was the best selling version of Sonic CD too. The jewel case version of it ended up in a lot of PC bargain bins for nothing. Dell often bundled Sonic CD with their PC's back in the later part of the 90's. The PC version was used as the bases for the one found on the Sonic Gems collection.

Man, that looks like a wacky cannon. I have never seen any of this before. Going by your description, Nicky is basically Peter Parker, whose alter ego is Sonic: The Hedgehog. Looking at the art, Sonic has a father who is a lumberjack, and a mother who is a trad wife? He has a sister. I would guess that Amy is his sisters friend, but has a crush on Sonic. ALA Spider-Man and Mary Jane. But then there is Vector, Mighty, the yellow guy from Sega Sonic, and the Chicken rocker are all part of Sonic's rock band? And they do battle against Robotnik and his band of MegaMan rejects. Am I even close?

His father is a pilot, who almost died in a crash but was saved by Sonic. I think this involves some time travel shenanigans. This also leads his father to his mother, and that's why he was born.

Amy is actually Nicky's girlfriend in this manga, and she gets abducted multiple times by a lizard named Anton Veruca. Nicky promptly transforms into Sonic to save the day.

What's interesting about the whole transformation thing is that no one besides Tails knows about it. The transformation is actually just Sonic from the future traveling back to the past and swapping places with his younger self (Nicky) and swaps back when he's done.

Sonic CD did get released in early 1993 in Japan and later 1993 in the US for the Sega CD. Maybe they were being developed around the same time, so they were working from the same ideas?Sonic CD is considered to be a sequel to Sonic 1, but doesn't acknowledge Sonic 2, as both games were being made by different teams, with one in Japan and the other at Sega of America's HQ.

Enjoy. From what I have heard this OVA was sup[pose to be some sort of pilot for a Sonic TV series that may have been shit canned. The OVA's or movie doesn't really have much of a conclusive plot. I think it was meant to give an idea on what a series could be like, The OVA does draw influence from Sonic CD, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3. It has Metal Sonic, Tails (Sonic 2) and Knuckles (Sonic 3).

Yeah OVA's are like pitch videos for potential TV series. The Sonic OVA was released as two parts in Japan in 1996. Even the pitch OVA's can still be different from the series that spin off of them. Sonic OVA's do grab from different sources, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, the swat bots look like they came out of the Archie series.
