How do you guys provide power to all of your consoles? Is it safe to daisy chain multiple surge protectors since only one console will be powered on at once?

I have a 3-outlet extension cord for some consoles, and a 6-outlet power brick for my others. They take separate outlets spread out through the room.

>> No.8410812

>>8410805
I use a battery backup, either 7-8 outlets available and no worry about power surges causing damage to my stuff.

2 of these daisy chained

>>8410881
That was my plan. I already have one of these, but I'm having to switch plugs out depending on what I want to play. I'm assuming your house hasn't burned down yet, so it's safe.

>>8410929
Not that anon, but you're unlikely to overload even a shitty power strip with game consoles.

>> No.8411116

>>8410805
Daisy chaining can be done but is not advisable. Can cause some overheating and I have killed power strips but luckily no fires from doing so. It is better if you can use multiple power strips run to different power outlets to better distribute the load.

>>8410805
I use an eight outlet surge protector. If I need more outlets I have too much shit out.

>>8410805
Yeah it's safe as long as you don't have them all on at once. I've had 16 consoles connected to the same pair of wall outlets using 3 daisy chained strips for 5 years, haven't had a single problem.

>> No.8412659

Consoles really don't draw all that much current. Extension leads are a problem when you plan on connecting high power appliances like space heaters, or having a high number of devices turned on at once.

>> No.8412768

Stop being pussies and find a 9v 4amp dc adapter and splice 3 plugs onto the end.

Old consoles don't draw much power. Even if you had a bunch all plugged in simultaneously it'd hardly matter.
Anyway I have a bunch of systems hooked up, 10 total. And one of those is a genesis/32x/CD. I use two big-ass surge protectors to hold all the wall worts and power cables.

Nah, the Mister ain't a Pi, it's an FPGA. Cool little piece of tech that emulates the ASIC. Can even do things that aren't emulated properly often, like the Magnavox Odyssey 2, or the Mario Bros arcade cabinet(MAME brutalizes that fucking audio).

I only have a few systems plugged in at a time. Currently have a dreamcast, snes, xbone, and switch hooked up on my desk setup.

Something like this. If I need more than 16 plugs for router + TV + Speakers + Consoles, something has gone wrong.

That what I did but the plan is for a lot more than 3 plugs. I used a variable power supply ranging from 9v to 24v so its probably a bit of a risk if I accident turned the knob, its 3a so should be fine. I tested genesis, nes and nes running at the same time and I didn't see any voltage drop at all.
It does get tangled very easily and its hard to untangle so it would benefit from velcro straps.
I keep moving my consoles so its not really finalized.

>>8410805
I think it is safe since the current would be so low.

>>8412827
I think its good just to turn stuff off at the switch incase of a faulty power supply or similar if leaving the house for a while.

I've had all of my consoles hooked up at once in the past but I have enough now that it's more convenient for me to just leave most of them on display in my entertainment center and hook them up when I'm actually using them.
Underneath the TV is where my PS2, PS3, PS4 and Xbox One S live. The cubes have most of my other older consoles (GameCube, Saturn, Core Grafx + Super CD-ROM2, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64) and my virtual reality stuff. I have a PSone as well, but it hangs out in a shelf nearby in that fruity little bag they sold for it.

Lol at all the people that instantly shit their pants whenever someone daisy chains power strips. You literally fell for the dumbfuck filter. As long as everything you're running combined is below the max amp rating for a single strip, nothing will happen. People just say to never daisy chain strips because your average dumbass won't think about the consumption of everything plugged in. Hell, they're game consoles, even. You're only going to have one of them on at a time, not like you have 20 things all drawng an amp at the same time.

morons will plug space heaters and shit into extension cords. there's no accounting for morons. a lot of places don't have fuses for each appliance too which makes it worse.

>> No.8421241

Yes it is. I swear you autists treat extension cord like superstitious luddites. The concern about overpacking an extension cord or surge protector is drawing more power than the wire can handle, thus getting too hot and combusting. All your vidya systems and whatnot do NOT use anywhere near enough power for this to be an issue. It's only a concern if you're using a bunch of high-power shit simultaneously like power tools and kitchen appliances.
