Time for announced but unreleased games.

Asterix The Gaul AKA Asterix - Listed as Electro Brain, but it was actually Infogrames (SNES)
A EU developed game for the PAL SNES that was gonna be ported over but got abandoned for whatever reason. You can just play the PAL original, it was made with PAL consoles in mind so it's not at a weird speed.

The Journey Home AKA Neugier: Umi to Kaze no Kodō - Listed as Renovation, but was Namco Tales Studio (SNES)
A relatively short and easy Super Famicom action RPG. Not really sure why it didn't get ported in the end. A fan translation exists. https://www.romhacking.net/translations/398/

Warriors of Rome 3 - Extreme (SNES)
A RTS game that was supposed to support the SNES Mouse, as well as be released on the Genesis at the same time. The first two were released on the Genesis and made by Micronet. No prototype has surfaced of this or the Genesis version.

Popeye AKA Popeye: Ijiwaru Majo Seahag no Maki - American Technos (SNES)
A strange cross between Mario Party and 2D Platformers. Was supposed to be ported, but got axed in the end. Fan translation exists. https://www.romhacking.net/translations/1355/

River Raid AKA River Raid Mission of No Return AKA River Raid 3 - Activision (SNES)
Was in development but got cancelled. Either a prototype or some source code of the game exists in the hands of one of the devs who can't release it for legal reasons(NDA's).

More in next post.

G2 AKA Genocide 2 - Kemco (SNES)
Was originally intended for international release, as evidenced by the english text dump story parts accessible with a cheat, they ended up just releasing it in Japan. Originally a JP computer action game. No fan translation exists, but I'm not sure one is needed.

Operation Alien - THQ (SNES)
Was shown at this CES, and never seen or heard from again. No sign of the prototype exists.

Steven Seagal AKA Steven Seagal Is The Final Option - TecMagik (SNES)
A bland beat em up that was cancelled. The incomplete prototype was found and dumped years ago. https://hiddenpalace.org/w/images/5/5f/Steven_Seagal_is_The_Final_Option_%28Prototype%29.7z

Firehawk - Sony Imagesoft (SNES)
Only heard about at this show, and never heard from again. No prototype has surfaced. Not even a screenshot.

Socks AKA Socks the Cat Rocks The Hill - Kaneko (SNES)
A platformer based on President Clinton's cat. Was cancelled shortly before being finished, and the prototype was hoarded for years by DreamTR(yep, him again), who actually made a very poor quality and blurry video of the gameplay just to show everyone "LOOK WHAT I HAVE!". Someone finally bought it off of him and made repros through a kickstarter and it was finally dumped and made publicly available. https://hiddenpalace.org/w/images/3/3a/Socks_the_Cat_Rocks_the_Hill.zip

Fido Dido - Kaneko (SNES)
A game based on an advertising mascot for 7UP, since Cool Spot was so oddly successful. Was supposed to be based off of the original comics the company licensed the character from according to one of the devs. Was supposed to be an SNES and Genesis release. While the Genesis prototype was found and dumped, so far only the devs that worked on the SNES version are known to have any working ROM. One dev posted a few screenshots of the SNES version back in 2014, but refuses to release the ROM(NDA's).

Whew, those CES shows are always full of vaporware. Till next time folks.

If the winner took anything besides option #1, they were a retarded child. Picking $500 worth of videogames over 50 videogames would be grade A stupid. Picking the GB multiplayer pack when all that was available at the time was racing, sports, Ultima Runes of Virtue, Fortified Zone, and a bunch of small screen versions of NES games? Madness. A single trip to the arcade that would probably be less than 8 hours due to parents? I could see a stupid kid falling for the sack of quarters if they were REALLY into arcade gaming, but by this time the arcade scene was starting to die down anyways.

It is trying way too hard. The title is garbage and the front of the box doesn't even bother to clearly tell you what it is. The angry orc with the hole in his head and the saliva pillars is supposed to be cool but to me those features don't read "cool". As a kid I always perceived this, at a glance, as a game that must be so bad that its marketers had decided disguising it as licensed garbage would actually make it look BETTER.

Maybe it worked for some kids though, I don't know. Anyway, it looks ilke the actual game is a perfectly respectable Street Fighter clone. I probably should have rented it instead of intuiting that it was worthless and passing over it every time. But I was a kid and therefore too stupid for that.

Complicating everything a little further (I think?) is the fact that the "Players" score is artificially filtered by the arbitrary choice of games on the Players' Poll response card. It's funny to see what might be hints of an anonymous writer's fandom. Yeah, that was an unfortunate holdover from the early years. Back when they started they had a list of 87 NES games for people to pick from. At the time they launched, there were 105 NES games. Baseball, Clu Clu Land, Gyromite, Soccer, Stack-Up, Wild Gunman, and Wrecking Crew are some of the titles that were excluded from the list. Even from the start they tended to push older titles off the list to make way for new stuff, even if the new stuff was obvious shovelware like Mickey's Safari in Letterland. Personally I think Baseball, Soccer, or Wrecking Crew was far more likely to get a vote than Jeopardy, Jaws, Gotcha The Sport, or fucking Chesterfield(since no kid in the US could play a game they didn't release), but I wasn't an NP editor. Pic related, look under the C's. They actually had it as an option for favorite game.
