Does anyone have any experience with the NegCon? I've always been interested in this thing. Does it really work well for racing games? What games work best with it?

never tried it but WRs in PS1 racers are often made with the negcon

Any racing game that supports it is better with it than with an analog stick

One of the few "gimmicks" that actually works well.

>> No.8312854

I tried for Need for Speed and all Ridge Racer.
Good pad except i can't finish Rage Racer while I do it with the classic pad

Honestly, I've heard that the Wipeout games control really well with it. And yes, even the original Wipeout supports the JogCon.

fixed that odd typo.

I play with it regulariy R4. Alongside Jogcon and even the Namco Arcade stick just for fun.
It doesn't work any better, imo the dpad is way more accurate for 5th gen games. But it's definitely an interest and fun way to play the game. Just for the diversity sake (the good diversity, not the pozzed diversity) i would get one if i were you.
If you look for "improvement" you're not going to get it from the NegCon.

It's quite nice
My one problem with it is that going from pressing I to pressing II sucks. You can't just keep a finger on both like with a regular dualshock Square and X because the buttons are really tall and when pressed go all the way down.

Are you playing RR4 on original hardware or via emulator? If via emulator, which one and what sertings are you using so that the Negcon is recognised correctly?

I have a better question. Does anyone know of good quality reliable inner replacement gears for it?

It is a nice almost-standard controller, not taking up as much room as a steering wheel. It's main feature is its twisting controls and a few games do support it, even Ridge Racer 5 on PS2. I remember it works real well with Rage Racer as that is what I played most with the controller.

>> No.8313542

I bought one recently, it's really nice. Works great, I'm planning on giving Ace Combat another playthrough with it some time.

My only complaint is that my shitty USB adapter gives it a massive deadzone.

>>8313436
You can use retroarch, it has a negcon setting and you just have to set up the controller beforehand in the menu, if you use the default mappings all the analog stuff doesn't work.

>>8313181
The face buttons are designed pretty poorly in general honestly. switching from I and II sucks but trying to switch from either of them to A or B is awful because I and II are set into the controller.

Playing on original hardware. Sorry, can't help you with emulation.
Aside what the other anon told you: i know that my Namco Arcade Stick for instance needs a seperate software to work (Joy2Key). Maybe there is something similar for PC?

>>8313562
You have to pivot your thumb so you can hit A/B with the base of it while the tip stays on the I/II button.

The real problem is how poor some of the games are when it comes to remapping. If I could always have II as accel, L as brake, and R as weapon/handbrake, with the d-pad for gear changing, the issues with the face buttons would be mostly gone.

I've been able to get it working on Gran Turismo 1, however in Side by Side Special 2000 for some reason the game doesn't recognise the I, II, and Left Bumper buttons (which are all analog). Not sure which settings I need to change to get them recognised properly

>> No.8315491

>>8315487
I must add, Side by Side Special 2000 has the Negcon added as a specific controller option, so it's kinda weird that I can't get it to recognise the buttons.

I love how the buttons are these spring loaded monsters. Very nice

>>8315487
It worked well in GT1, or you just managed to push a few buttons? If you don't map the controller outside of the core in the main retroarch, and then set it up again in the core, it won't work right.

>> No.8315520

>>8315516
It did work properly in GT1, all the buttons seemed to do what they were supposed to. It's probably not as smooth on the steering as I was expecting, but that could very well be a setting issue that I need to play round with.
I'll pull it back out of the box and give it another go. I've got an Xbox controller, G920 wheel, and now the Negcon so it's interesting to compare the different controllers.

For me, it's the Saturn arcade racer.

Because it was designed to be placed on your chair and sit between your legs, it's just as good as the negcon for pick up and play. With fancier FFB wheels, you have to lock them down to a table, and fish out the pedals. That's the hassle. The arcade racer loses analog inputs for brake/accel, but those don't really matter in arcade titles. and it's comfortable to use for long hours, with its flappy paddle gear shifting.

>> No.8315594

>>8315520
Update: I may have a faulty adapter port, which isn't transmitting the analog signals properly. I just switched the controller over to the other port and it seems better, although I need to play round with the settings to get the feel right. Side by Side Special 2000 does now recognise all button inputs correctly, so progress at least.

I wish there was a decent arduino based adapter for PS1/2 controllers.

Everything else seems to have a good option. All the specifications are out there, I've seen the odd specific adapter like there's one trying to add FFB to the jogcon, but there's no good generic adapter. All the chink ones are terrible and in varying states of broken or lag city. And PS3 controllers are shit.

I have a ps1 classic, do you think it will work with an usb adapter and autobleem? Autobleem supports retroarch so I guess it is possible, just gotta find a good adapter that doesn't fuck it up with input lag and so on(and find a neGcon while we're at it kek, Im in eastern europe so it might be harder)

>> No.8316081

>>8316032
Isn't retroarch via autobleem used only for simpler cores like SNES? I don't know if the mini has the power output to handle emulating PS1 games through retroarch.

NeGcons are getting a bit hard to find, I think some youtuber made a video on them or something so all the prices on eBay are a bit stupid. I picked one up recently for 15 bucks though, so maybe you just have to wait around.
