Because Nintendo basically disregarded the Indigo version right away after Microsoft's remark of being "your little brother's kindergarten lunchbox" hit their bottomline hard, and touted the platinum one as a "limited special edition" despite being the most common model alongside the black recolor.
And it's also why the orange one never left Japan.

I like having the box around for storage and consoles in boxes are usually in WAY better shape than loose ones. so many scratched surfaces/yellowing/etc. has put me off unboxed shit, I like having assurance that I won't have to spend a few hours dicking around with aftermarket parts or cleaning kits to restore full functionality
