Matchbox Racers - Matchbox (NES)
Was gonna be like R.C. Pro Am, but it got cancelled. No prototype has surfaced, and it wasn't in the NES Lot Check outside of the spreadsheet. Devs have mentioned that none of them saved a copy, so possibly lost forever.

Work Boy - FabTek (GB)
Amazing how much this got featured before getting canned. Working rom and keyboard have been found. Rom was found in the gigaleak lot check. For some reason, the direct download for the rom is broken, so you need to download the entire .7z file. The rom is inside in the folder DMG.

M.C. Kids - Virgin or Ocean (GB)
Was ported to the Game Boy, but only in Europe. There it was called McDonaldland. It was then reskinned(I can't even begin to figure out the logic here) to a Cool Spot videogame, called Spot: The Cool Adventure, which was released in the US. You can play either the EU original or the US reskin in any emulator.

Triple A AKA Triple Ace AKA Vattle Giuce - IGS (GB)
Was supposed to be a US release of Vattle Giuce, a JP shoot em up game. Not much was heard, until it was found in the gigaleak.

Well, it was a parody/ripoff of James Bond. SPECTRE was a large evil organization that lasted for all of three books in the Fleming novels. And Steelbeak may have Jaws's uniqueness, but he certainly dresses like Blofeld. Prior to that SMERSH was the big bad for most of the books, but they were effectively forgotten about when SPECTRE appeared.

Now this is more like it. Cramming a bunch of standard, basic board games into a Game Boy cartridge, along with a presumably decent (against beginners at least) chess AI, is a good idea. The hardware is well suited to this job, whereas the more Nintendo-ey games like Mario and Mega Man tend to strain the limits of that murky little screen. (Zelda worked nicely though!) And it's easy to muster an interest in trying out backgammon with your sibling when you're both stuck in the back seat of the family car for the next few hours.

The Game Boy was literally everywhere thanks to Tetris, and many of those were in the hands of adults. Remember the issue with all the Gulf War guys writing in to praise the GB for being something they could play in their downtime? Remember that picture of Hillary Clinton on a plane playing GB? Computers at the time sold more as a functional/business/working item than as an entertainment item. Some boring productivity software could easily outsell even popular games. The GB was far more portable than laptops at the time as well, making it attractive as a portable processing unit.

In the end they failed to take one basic concept into account. The screen. Playing a videogame for 15-30 minutes at a time on a small blurry screen isn't too bad. Who in the hell in their right mind wants to write and read text on such a tiny and blurry screen when pen and paper exists? Or try to make out what the screen is saying when doing translations at some sidewalk cafe? The screen kills the entire idea.

I like that they've suddenly stopped having Rob and George give numerical ratings to everything. On this page, they both talk about losing the first fight in this crappy alien boxing game two or three times and then giving up. It'd be ridiculous to print numbers after that.

Of course the whole section is still unnecessary. You don't need to set up these critic-type characters if you're just giving previews, and if you ARE going to include criticism then you need to have the guys actually play each game for more than fifteen minutes.

Stanley has all the makings of a good game, but the clunky controls make for a miserable experience.
Good:
>can pick any available section of the map to explore
>as you reach the other side of those areas, opens up more areas to explore
>need to collect items to make yourself more powerful and access new areas
Bad:
>most areas are just generic jungle with reused tiles
>falling too far without gyropack on(about 2 character heights) is death
>your gyropack doesn't always engage when you want it to due to poor controls, leading to many deaths
>poor controls means you die a lot from accidentally walking into enemies or pits
>only a few lives, and rare to get more, so game over happens often if you aren't doing a TAS
>trying to do precision jumping in the few areas that requires it is frustrating as hell, and there's usually some annoying flying enemies around at the time too
If they had just polished it a bit more, it might be considered a classic today. Instead it's rightfully forgotten.

I'm curious about how Mario, Metroid, and Zelda will compete in the future in these Game Boy charts. Mario 3 is such a strong game that it may possibly hold the top spot in the NES list until that list is retired... but on SNES, Zelda could maybe take #1, and on Game Boy I imagine that it should and will. But maybe people will be more impressed with the Mario Land sequels? I don't know, I never played those. I expect at least one of the aforementioned to oust Metroid II at some point, anyway.

Yoshi's Island seems like something that could reach #1 in the SNES list eventually.

I can't imagine why the developers of the SNES version thought it was a good idea to draw every bullet so close to the "camera" at first as to fully obscure your view for a moment. That is annoying.
