I had a stand alone Sony DVD player since it was new and the disc drive started failing. So I got a better version from goodwill and it worked for a while but then started having the same problems. I don't trust my PS2's disc drive to keep working.
Now I watch DVDs through a PS3 which is the best DVD player for an LCD screen. They really got the deinterlacing perfect or something. But I'm worried it's going to wear it out.

I've always kind of wanted to play back old animu on my CRT, but I can never be bothered finding anything that'll work with it. Especially when these days it's very rare to actually find anything good still in 480i, so many rescans out there.

Has anyone ever used CRT shaders on video before? It's not too bad for games, and now I've got a nice 4k monitor, it feels like it might be an alright way to view older shows. Maybe I'll try running shin-chan through retroarch or something.

FUCK no. Having parental control password you can't disable sucks ass, it throws a shitfit if the disc has even barely a smudge on it, and watching DVD's drastically reduces your PS2's optical drive/laser's lifespan in my experience.

Greatest library is debatable. SNES, PS1, PSP, DS and just due to longevity the gay homo PC can be argued in any order. But yes, a huge library of classics, plus tons of features such as being a great CD and DVD player, backwards compatible, right timing, huge momentum, other consoles fucking up big time.
