Yeah I bet there were a fair number of kids who never would have seriously considered using FAST for any purpose (because it's not an exciting direct-damage spell) if they hadn't read that particular page of Nintendo Power. It's pretty much the ultimate offensive spell in that game, if you have even one good physical attacker.

(Ninja's ultimate weapon was the katana, which is inferior to the knight's ultimate weapon, but he's still a good attacker. Everybody can hold the "masmune", but that one isn't as much of a factor in the game because it shows up only very very late.)

This is middle of 1990, the NES had already been out for nearly 5 years, the Famicom for 7, and the Sega Genesis just launched last year. The Super Famicom launches in a few months. Next year it launches in the US. This is the ending era of the NES right here, not early. NP didn't start until 88, which is closer to the middle of the NES's lifespan.

That just showed how many bad games there were in the early NES days. TMNT should not be winning any best-of polls. When people think of NES they think of SMB3, DQ3/4, Mega Man 1-6, Castlevania 3, not Golgo 13, Bayou Billy, and TMNT 1.

I get you didn't grow up back then, but is this really such a hard concept to understand? Kid Icarus was popular, it filters most people today. Zelda 2 was popular, despite what revisionists try to claim and how clunky it is. TMNT was a very popular game, to the point I saw people who had the game who didn't give a fuck about the franchise or cartoon. It had variety of gameplay, it had depth, and it had challenge. People didn't scream like autists because enemies glitched through walls and floors, we figured it was part of the challenge.

Let it go already. And sage so we can move on to the next issue sooner.

My cousin had the game, never liked TMNT cartoon, movies, or anything else. Loved the game. One of my friends never watched cartoons since he was always big into sports, but he had a copy of TMNT. Didn't like the franchise, but liked the game.

I understand you can't comprehend this, since you've said it multiple times, but people liked the game. If you don't hate it, then why are you so fixated on why everyone else liked it?

Fascinating stuff. The early era of Nintendo Power was a surprisingly high quality magazine. Once they started changing the format, even slightly, it was never the same after that.
