Saturn is coming

Main:
- input: use gamepad LEDs to display player number (DS3/4, DualSense, Switch, Wiimote).
- Add milti-instance no_merge_vidpid INI option.
Note: correct player LEDs behavior is guaranteed only on official gamepads. Clones and compatible controller may have different LED behaviors.

>What is MiSTer?

MiSTer is an open project that aims to recreate various classic computers, game consoles and arcade machines, using modern hardware. It allows software and game images to run as they would on original hardware, using peripherals such as mice, keyboards, joysticks and other game controllers.

As is it today, yes, you need a light gun for a particular core to get it working through SNAC. The inferior but more accessible alternative is to just use a Wii Remote or a mouse, but the feeling is obviously not the same.

I was interested in giving them a shot on my MiSTer just because I realised I've got everything required to finally give one of these games a shot (bar a lightgun itself), but as you said the PS2 probably has better offerings.

By the way, would a 20" screen be too small to play properly?

>> No.8012527

>>8012376
20" is alright, it's at least better than 14". Ideally you'd want 25" and up, but all it means is you'll have to sit a little closer.

The problem with the mister is that most of the offerings aren't that great. I'm not a huge fan of most of the NES titles, Lethal Enforcers on the SNES/MD is solid but the gun is hard to find for cheap and only works with that one game (well, and snatcher on the MD), Master System is slightly better than NES.

The PS2 has some fantastic titles like all the Point Blank games, Time Crisis, Virtua Cop, and even Vampire Night. All it's really missing is HotD, which has a terrible port of the first game for saturn and 2/3 are both on systems with trash guns, the DC and Xbox. So they're all better off on a PC based setup through emulation/ports anyway.

It's only for people that own a collection. If you don't have a collection it loses 90% of it's appeal.

That said... the number of cores on MISTer is so high currently, it is so much versatile with all the controllers you can plug easily without any hassle, It also has better picture quality with way more choices and resolution output above 1080p, of course they keep updating it, it is a way better investment if you look closely to all the things it offers.

Those two Analogue products, I really don't think it will sell well anymore, most of the people that wanted a Super NT or Mega SG even with a consequent collection just bought a MISTer at this point and they are happy with it.

Their only product that currently makes more sense against the MISTer is the Analogue Pocket, since portability is indeed a real plus, sadly so far they have done the worst to sell it with their bad management and pre order wait being way too long, they can point covid as an excuse all they want, they are not the only company affected by it, yet under the same conditions they still have the worst delay among the bunch.

What'shisface, Kevtris?, doesn't he surreptitiously release jailbroken firmware a couple weeks after launching each system anyway?
There's not really any point buying a flashcart if you intend to go that route.

I've had this happen on both an emulator and real genuine board one time only. Sound did not keep playing though.

I like to refer to it as Akuma's secret ultimate attack.

Analogue console + flashcart is really common for some reason, probably because people never realize that the jailbreak firmware even exists.

The Akuma fight must be cursed, iirc it's also broken on the GBA port and can crash the game.

Probably.
Because at that level of abstraction (flashcart on a clone console) you may as well assemble a MiSTer because there's nothing left of the original console either way and the latter is much cheaper in the end.

Super NT jailbreak does not support all cartridge chips. It's probably on par with the Super Everdrive than the SD2SNES/FX Pak Pro

For consoles? Yeah it's basically flawless. You can use original controllers via a SNAC adapter at 0 latency, but the protocol is married to the core (ie. SNES controller can only be used with the SNES core, and wont work even for main menu navigation) so if you're not a speedrunner I'd suggest getting a daemonbite/raphnet adapter wired adapter for 5ms or less of latency- or something from 8bitdo for the convenience of wireless if you're okay with maybe a frame of lag occasionally. I personally use a Wii U Pro controller.
>And what's this stuff about gate failure and grease
Idiots trying to scare people by adopting the language of CRT phosphor burn-in and N64 analogue stick breakdown respectively.

I want a mister, but I don't really know a lot about these old PC games, any recommendations of some lengthy ones that might make the purchase seem more justified? I really like lengthier games and have already played most of the worthwhile console stuff

>> No.8020362

>>8020186
Most of the PC stuff is honestly probably just better off being emulated. Half the stuff worth playing has more modern ports that fix issues, and dealing with some of the quirks of older hardware isn't fun.

Personally I see mister as a great replacement for a bunch of old consoles, I'm not really interested in the PC side because there are so few action titles, and a large proportion of them ran like shit anyway. A frame or two of lag barely even matters for a strategy game.
