Hopefully these pages are big enough. I'm having to convert pdfs to jpg and then expanding the image size.

Not to sound ungrateful, but they're definitely not big enough, and the quality is really grainy. If you're getting these from the internet archive, you shouldn't have to convert anything. For this one, I just opened the image in a new tab, saved it as a jpg and then tripled its dimensions in paint. It's still a little jaggy, but it looks better then what you did to it.

So I am using my pdf view and clicking 'copy image" and pasting it into the post window. These are clearly way way way better quality. Why is this and is there a way to convert this quality to image?

I was afraid of that.....Anon, the actual PDF was not made to archival standards. Some asshole prolly used a "reduce filesize" setting on it at some point, cutting the DPI (PDFs don't "do" traditional pixels, believe it or not....) and JPEG'ing the shit outta it. It's a lost cause at that point.

I just saved the scans from Retromags which are usually the best quality and in a convenient cbr/cbz file. Just unzip that and bam, you got a folder of images.

internet archive has both the low quality pdf and higher quality cbr/cbz
search for "Nintendo Power 1988 - 2004" for first 145 issues + 11 more

I now have in much better quality 1-145 and 35 other issues up to 249. Does anyone know /vr/'s image limit?

That's a good point. Upon taking a second look, you can only see the tops of the mock-up magazines, you can't see anything else. Only the two issues that were made so far you can actually see the covers of.

Check the staff credits in the opening index. Nintendo Power used to have a JP staff who handled most of the illustration work that wasn't copies of official artwork. As time went on they got a few more US-based artists to illustrate, and eventually stopped making the distinction as to where their staff was living. By issue 28 at least, they just lump the US and JP illustrators together.

When I was a kid the only magazine I was subscribed to was Nintendo Power. It was all I read and we had shit proto-internet. The only other source of video game info for me was commercials on TV, billboards and ads at like the mall, and what I heard at school.

To me, Nintendo Power was the word of God. I thought it was simple fact that N64 was the best console and every game that came out for it was amazing. When Gamecube came out I had no idea many people were disappointed by it, I thought it was incredible because Nintendo Power told me to.

I still look back at such an innocent gullible time with fondness

Here in the UK the magazines were even more biased since they used to invent stupid schoolboy-tier insults for the rival consoles like "Phony Greystation" and "Sega Sadturd". The Nintendo Official Magazine UK had competitions where they would give you a free game if you sent in a picture of you smashing up a Playstation. The console wars were savage here.

I live in Australia, and we were constantly fucked over by distribution deals in certain markets, so a lot of dedicated gamers had to resort to getting imports from japan, hong kong or europe. and people also bought ntsc machines just to play the japanese imports. this also required an ntsc compatible monitor. commodore's monitors were popular for this until pal/ntsc compatible televisions became more common in the early 1990s. it was a such a shitshow. people that had the money spared no expensive when it came to getting their games.
