I honestly believe that this is the best Pikmin, and I am kinda shocked that this is not the consensus.

Agreed. I didn't like the holes in 2. Completely changed the dynamic of the game and took it from cool designed puzzles to randomly generated monster fights nonstop

>randomly generated monster fights nonstop
damn that sounds awful
i lucked out i guess

Not retro, but I liked 3 the best. Using the game pad to manage and swap between multiple groups of Pikmin all doing different shit around the map was management kino

Pikmin discussion mostly revolves around 1 vs 2 with a few 3bros chiming in

I just started playing 3 and it feels really good. I think I might be playing it wrong because I set my Pikmin to bring a bunch of rocks to the bridge building area and then I go do something else. My pikmin keep going back to the rock area after the bridge is completed and they end up getting left behind and I feel bad.

>mfw the first boss (the bird thing with the long neck) eats all of my Pikmin and I hear them screaming

When I was young I liked 2 best for being a gigantic game and not having to manage time as much, I liked methodically clearing out caves floor by floor.

Now I like 1 more, it’s quick and focused and feels more natural somehow. Going for fewer days is like score running in other games. 2 wastes too much time and without the time stressor and limit on days the combat just isnt enough to carry the game. It definitely has good attributes though.

I thought 3 was one of the most beautiful looking games I’ve played which was surprising given the system, but simple proper direction goes a long way. Besides that, I thought it was meh. Not bad but I was indifferent towards it. I think you need to like their weird score attack challenge system to get the most out of it, but I’m not that into preplanning a route which is what it feels like that is based around.

pikmin 1 has the best atmosphere, the environments feel dangerous and oppressive, you are completely alone, the music tracks and especially forest of hope are fantastic. does anyone know whether it's possible to beat it without a single pikmin death?

>>7900964
No Death Runs are a thing, you can find multiple from a quick search. Some parts are obviously less interesting to watch than others, but you can easily fastforward to the interesting parts.

Kind of astonishes me people can kill the smoky progg without losing any pikmin.

makes sense. every time I lose a pikmin I realize I got too greedy or there was a better way to do things.

3's controls suck dick. It feels like everything that was natural and intuitive about pikmin 2's controls was removed.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this way.

I also wasn’t a fan of the action roll. A roll with iframes that your captain and all of your pikmin do just feels too weird and out of place in a pikmin game.

My biggest issue with both 2 and 3 is that there’s no option for a co-op campaign. They already have co-op built into the missions, feels pointless not to let you do it with a friend or sibling. I’m at the age where me and my friends wont really play through this sort of game together, but when I was a kid I really wanted coop in 2’s story and couldnt figure out why they wouldnt let me do it.

Pik 3 is alright
but I agree, the first one is a real classic. I enjoyed losing the game and turning into a pikmin.

>> No.7901761

I played the first three for the first time last year and I think I like better Pikmin 2, while Pikmin 1 is very comfy the limited time aspect really got on my nerves sometimes (just for having it present at all times, the game gives you enough days to get everything in time). Pikmin 2 changes things quite a bit with the holes system, but it's full of improvements that make way for new strategies and the world seems more interesting to me. Pikmin 3 is quite good too. I've had Hey! Pikmin for while in my shelf but I've not yet started playing

Sums up most of my problems with 2 in one neat sentence. No idea why it's people's favourite.

You and me both brother. So pleasant and peaceful. Even with the time limit.
Plus those awful underground randomely generated caves are not in this one.

It's exactly like Fallout 1 vs 2. Pikmin 1 may have far less content and mechanics, but what is there is extremely polished and focused. I'm not saying 2 is bad by any means, it's really a matter of preference. But I was never a fan of the "dungeons" of 2.

I agree, there’s something about the pressure to be productive that kept me on my toes that I liked that the other two are missing.

>pikmin 1 has the best atmosphere, the environments feel dangerous and oppressive, you are completely alone
Pikmin 1: you are completely and utterly alone on a totally unknown planet and your life support is giving out. There is a very real possibility you will die here, and no one will ever find you. Your only hope of survival are strange semi-intelligent aliens who follow you for totally unknown reasons and could turn and eat you any second for all you know.

Pikmin 2: make money for your greedy boss because your co-worker stole from the company

>> No.7903697

Pikmin 1 really was the definitive pikmin experience
