when you try to program your own 3d graphics and utilities from scratch and its crunch time for the new system you are developing for this is what you get. it's funny how easy it is to make extremely capable 3d render engines, and how difficult it is to make good data to feed those engines. thank god for tools like blender in recent years. still, it can be fun to program your own tools to get some distinctive results

Is this a cutscene or what? I mean there's endless games with hand-animated stretch nonsense for facial animation - even tomb raider - if you're talking cut scenes. or do you want in game

here's a semi-related thing: where, knowing that if they tried to model an expression by dragging around vertices they would fail hopelessly, they just stick the original sculpt of a head in various scenes like a stone bust

D was made originally for the Panasonic 3DO and was ported to other consoles later. Kenji Eno said to a Gamefan magazine editor that the original game was rendered entirely on Commodore Amiga's. People generally say that the original 3DO game looked the best.

The game was made first for the 3DO, and had a "directors cut" that was ported to the Sega Saturn, PS1 and MS-DOS PC. The PC version is sold on GOG along with Enemy Zero. D2 was originally planned for the 3DO M2 console. But ended up as a Dreamcast exclusive.

WTF
>Xiahou Dun (died 13 June 220), courtesy name Yuanrang, was a Chinese military general and politician serving under the warlord Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. He served for a few months under Cao Cao's successor, Cao Pi, before his death. As one of Cao Cao's most trusted generals, Xiahou Dun aided the warlord in his campaigns against Lü Bu, Liu Bei, Sun Quan and others.
>Xiahou Dun lost his left eye when he was a hit by a stray arrow during a battle against Lü Bu in the late 190s, and subsequently became known among the rank and file as "One-eyed Xiahou". His image as a one-eyed warrior was popularised by the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, in which he yanked the arrow out of his eye and devoured his eyeball.
>After the loss of his left eye, he was given the nickname "One-eyed Xiahou" (盲夏侯) in Cao Cao's army. Xiahou Dun hated this nickname and he would throw a mirror to the ground whenever he saw his own reflection.

I just want to say that Wipeout was the first PS1 game that I ever played. I was blown away by that FMV intro. The video was really clean and no horrible image artifacts. They probably rendered that intro on a few SGI workstations. And I would say that Rage Racer was when Namco started to get better with their CG video.
