What's the best Battle Network game and why is it 6?

Just play 2, 3 and 6 it's not that hard anon. They're all great games for GBA in their own right. Then, if you want even more Battle Network, there's the other games in the series.

>> No.7726867

Were there this many?
I only played the first one, which was amazing. Had so much fun coming up with strategies, the story encounters were well done (although the story itself was kinda meh), but it was just an all-around good time.
I'll check some of the other ones out, maybe 2, 3, or 6 like >>7726639 suggested if they're even better.

10 because you have to play BN4 three times to get all the souls and battlechips, then there's Network Transmission (which I've heard is okay) and Battlechip Challenge (which...I wouldn't recommend unless you're using an emulator with a turbo feature).

1 is basically a prototype for 2, so you should like it. For what it's worth, I've played through 1 as well and like it more than some other people who aren't able to get over the QoL updates made in later games not being in 1.
>>7726875
>then there's Network Transmission (which I've heard is okay)
I played it for an hour and it was the worst side scrolling Mega Man game I had ever played

This but do got back and play 1 and maybe 4-5 after. There are shit elements in 4-5 but if you enjoy the battle system at the end it’s still Battle Network.

To be clear 2,3, 6 are top tier like the others have said. If you only are going to play one very torn between 3 and 6. Each BN does have some tedium though going back and forth backtracking it’s there in most of 3, chills on that around a third through 6.

Only played the first one. First GBA game, too. Not bad. Why did they make the series gay after it by supposedly eliminating the full restoration of health after every battle starting with 2?

>> No.7727491

Played through 2 recently and the whole time i feel myself looking forward to playing 3 with all the new things it introduces.
A big chunk of the game is just me pulling off Gater program advances after a certain point.

I still love the game but it's clear to me that 3 and 6 are so much better in the gameplay department now. I need to do post game which is still one the best parts of BN2, but the story is still great.
FreezeMan.EXE scenario is still a slog though.

Heads up, if anyone is looking to replay these, there are patches with the changes and improvements made in the Wii U Virtual Console releases.

6 also has a patch with all the stuff cut from the english version, among other things.

Because the free restore on health required them to make random encounters stronger to compensate, which lead to random shit mobs generally taking longer to kill. Getting rid of it allowed them to make the shit mobs more about killing them before they damage you and thus less time consuming.

They all have their highs and lows.
When they're good they're REALLY good but on the other hand each of them has at least two or three parts that make me want to never touch them again.
Also, it's hilarious to see the sheer stupidity of the "damn you elementary school kid with a funky smartphone and a self aware Bonzi Buddy! You foiled my plan to take over the world yet again!" concept with Lan somehow being the only competent (yet still retarded) person around and the actually pretty fucked up fact that he is basically constantly endangering the life of his brother and roiding him up with add-on programs.

Also also, tons of dialogue in it is meme-worthy as hell.

Network Transmission may have been awful, but fuck that OST is so good. Might be one of my favorites in the series.

>> No.7730237

>>7729997
Network transmission was really badly balanced, relying too heavily on the mechanics on BN1 right down to recycling damage and HP numbers without making them visible on enemies.

Past that, there's still some decent level design with meaningful enemy placement to present a challenge, but suffers from some stage gimmicks that previously relied on having locked screen transitions like the Quick Man lasers.

Grinding for chip data was a particular problem, but late game you can mostly rely on charged buster shots.

>> No.7730243

>>7729997

Game also plays a lot better if you use a SNES style controller with remapped buttons. The original GameCube controller is not good for network transmission.

I was never able to finish 6. I didn't hate it but it just kind of fell victim to ADHD. I tried to play it last year during lockdown, but then the emulator ate my save and my last backup was the AquaMan fish thing, and fuck if I'm replaying that shit a third time.

You can potentially lock yourself out of a trading quest line if you throw a necessary chip into the chip trader. It won't prevent you from 100%ing the game though as you can still get the reward from the chip trader itself, albeit those odds are low.
General rule for BN games, never throw your last chip in the chip trader.

BN1 also allows you to save-scum the chip traders and farm OP chips. The later BN games fixed it so using a chip trader will save the game.
The DS version of BN1 however didn't implement this.

>> No.7734840

Thanks. I'm really liking it. I still don't see a reason why they consider it another universe.

It could very well tie in with the classic series.

>> No.7734954

>>7734840
The ending of BN1 will partially explain why the EXE series is a separate continuity to the classic series.

But it amounts to "Society adopted networking technology instead of robotics".
Robotics still exists, but in much smaller scale and not for the means of building eventually sentient robots.

>> No.7734965

>>7734954
Interesting, because in the classic series we do have these Virtual Worlds/Networks. This game is explaining much better how these Virtual Worlds work.

So I think that the Virtual Worlds from the classic series is basically Mega Man connecting in one of these networks using a PET.

It's not really. The inclusion of cyber-worlds in the later series on the classic timeline is usually throw-away for the sake of giving you a themed level to play through.

>> No.7735490

>>7735374
Yeah, but the game still has a lore. I have the impression that the Battle Network expanded on this concept.

I can't remember the first cyberworld, but I think it was MMX4? There was a digital boss in X3 too.
